I just got my 1st AL MAR ever in the mail the other day.Despite reading mixed reviews on AL MAR,I decided to buy a SERE 2000.I have it right in front of me as I'm writing this,& I gotta say it is one of the best folders I own.I can tell a lot of thought went into making this folder. It is simplicity in it's finest form. The ergonomic G-10 handle fits my hand perfectly. The pocket clip is designed so the knife sits deep in your pocket. The 3 1/2" VG10 blade is flawless & shaving sharp out of the box.It is surprizingly light, which makes it a great edc. This knife is definatly my 2nd favorite folder.Second only to my ZT0200.So say what you will about AL MAR.They just made me a new fan of theirs with the SERE 2000.

Once I handled my friend's SERE 2000 and the quality really shocked me. It was extremely smooth and it locked up like a vault. The G-10 was nice and grippy like Spyderco's (they probably use the same technique and type) and the whole thing just screamed 'refined'. To be honest the finish and overall package put the folder in my pocket to shame despite it being a wonderful knife.

Thanks for your feedback Capt. Carl.I was a little leary about buying an Al MAR at first, because of a lot of negative reviews I read.Plus they are pretty expensive. The SERE 2000 removed all doubt though.I really like the Nomad folders, but don't want to spend so much on a 3" blade.

I've got an Al Mar Mini Sere 2000, it has "typical" excellent F&F of what i consider "higher-end" Japanese production folders like in Spydercos, Fallknivens  and probably like Mcusta by all accounts i've read on BF...

I don't have one, but the ones I've looked at at knife shows ALWAYS exhibited great fit and finish, with excellent actions. There were some problems in the past with lockup, and some of the ones I've looked at also exhibited this problem. To me it's an easy fix though by disassembling the knife and tweaking the lock bar to give it more spring and therefore fixing the lockup problems. Keep in mind though that all SERE 2000's don't have lockup problems, just a few.

Mine locks up smooth & soliD:thumbup:

I loved the S2K, but got caught up in the higher end tacticools for awhile, and passed it on. But those days are gone forever, so in fact I may just have to get another one!

Nice to read this. I handled a mini sere at Plaza Cutlery and it had some front/rear blade play, and I was not impressed. Sounds like this was the exception though and not the norm.

the low ride clip on my MiniSere2000 seems to be a love it /hate it issue...I personally like it

I used to own one years ago and loved it when I got it, then for some reason the lock started to slip. You could see the lock move ever so slightly when pressue was applied to the spine of the blade. It definately locked loudly when the lock was engaged, but the movement of the lock made me lose confidence in the one I had. I would love to have another one, but have not ever made the jump and bought one. Excellent knive though. I want another.

Just noticed the specs up top. When the knives first came out it seems that they were not advertised with a .150" thick blade and the blade thickness seemed like it was around 1/8+ or .125" thick. How long have the SERE 2000's been coming out with the thicker blades? That was one thing I wished the SERE's I had seen had, and if they now do then I may have to have one!
