Al Mar SERE 2000 has no blade tension screw?

Hi, all.

I have an Al Mar SERE 2000 on order after reading glowing reviews here.

However, I just noticed... in all the pictures I've seen, there are no disassembly screws or blade pivot tension screws.

How loose is the blade? Does it get looser with age?

I like mine tight, tight, tight so it doesn't fall on my fingers when I close the blade. I'm willing to give up the ability to flick open the blade, in order to protect my poor fingers. Also, I like being able to disassemble my knives (either in warranty or not) to clean them completely.

I'm worried that if I drench it in Militec-1 and the retaining detent ball isn't very strong, it'll start opening in my pocket (and other unpleasant things.)

Thanks!

The S2K is an awesome knife indeed. The tension can be adjusted and it can be taken apart.

No doubt. It's fully adjustable. In fact, the entire knife can be taken apart. It's an outstanding knife.

The S2K is definitely not a flicker. But you get a knife with a lock up that is comparable to customs.

An awesome knife, but it does not have the best ball detent. My only gripe about this knife is that it has opened up in my pocket before; but only when the relatively long thumbstud catches on the rim of a thick pair of jean's pocket, upon withdrawal. It is a tip-up, too, so be careful. Other than that, it is a top notch blade, and I rotate it with my BM 710HSSR as EDC.

Somewhere on here is a thread about shaving down the long thumbstuds but I haven't been able to find it again. I've had the same problem with the stud snagging on my pocket.

Hi,

I had the same thing happen in my front jeans pocket and I don't like tip-up carry knives anymore, the SERE 2000 will never ever be carried in a jeans pocket again.

I love the knife but when opening up inside your front jeans pocket it's dangerously close to some very important blood vessels.

Best Scouting wishes from Holland,

Doh!

I must be blind.

Thanks all for the help -- from all the pictures, it LOOKS like rivets of some type, rather than screws.

I feel SO much better.

Thanks again.

Bagheera: I know, I swore off tip-up designs after having been pricked, UNTIL I realized that you MUST carry tip-up knives with the blade facing the seam of your pant. That way it can't open up. With a standard righty clip, that's your front-right or rear-left pocket.

Although I may need to find out how to smooth out those thumbstuds...
