Seeking advice on a new folder. Currently carry an Al Mar sere 2000 and am really happy with it. Built tough, locks up like a vault, and carries a great edge. Just wondered what Your experience or advice is on any other really solid folding knives. Essentially a folder that comes as close as it can to a fixed blade. Thanks for Your input. If You have photos of your choice I would really aprreciate seeing them.

The Al Mar SERE 2000 is a classic that leaves a lot of knives in the dust. If you want one, "Get it". You won't be disappointed.

Since you have all the bases covered by the SERE, anything else would be icing on the cake. Try a cold steel pocket bushman for something cheap and strong.

Thanks guys. The Al Mar Sere 2000 is the best I have seen and owned. Was just curious if anyone had knowledge of something better. I had seen photos of the emerson cqc-11 and wondered if it was as solid as the sere 2000. I have a gentleman jim and really like it and I am sure it was not designed to compete with the Sere. For what it is I am happy with the gentleman Jim....but The Al Mar is superior in fit and finish in my opinion.

I would agree with you that Al Mar knives are on a whole different level of fit and finish than Emersons. Its highly apparent when you set one of each side by side.

I would recommend that you check out the Zero Tolerance offerings. They have many good beefy models like the 300, 551, 200... They have excellent fit and finish as well. Still not quite on the level of Al Mar IMO but much closer than Emerson.

Tried SERE 2000 and was not impressed at all. There was a play in the blade - and from I have heard, that was not an unique situation. At least it was quite common a few years ago, when I have had it. The handle too heavy, blade looks disproportionally small... So it just did not work for me. Given a choice would take any Emerson or Benchmade (with a few exceptions)... And certainly any of the ZT knives.

I am relatively new to knife collecting. I have an Al Mar SERE 2k and just got a couple Lion Steel SR 1 Titanium. Wow are they gorgeous and really tough!!

If you like the SERE you should get a CQC-7. It's really solid and there is no such thing as blade play on Emersons.

Nevermind35 was right, the Zero Tolerance looks very close to what I wanted. I have not heard of Lion Steel but I will check them out as well
