Ok I have a question/request. I can't decide whether or not I want to get a BM 710HS to replace my 710 or an Al Mar Sere 2000. I like VG-10, have lots of experience with Spydercos, and liners while not my favorite don't scare me, also I like the sere's low ride clip. My questions are what do you guys that use the SERE think of it (and sorry I know it's been done to death). Also could someone please post a pic of a SERE along with the 710 or something like an Endura or Military, to give me an idea of the size of the knife, I haven't see one in person, I know what the 710 is like, already have one.

The Al Mar SERE is a BEAUTIFUL piece of work, with perfect Fit and Finish. The 710 is a nice, tough knife too. Can't really go wrong

The SK200 is awsome, but you'll probably have to sandpaper the edges. The two I've owned had rough edges along the liner.

I owned a SERE 2K for a while but ended up not EDCing it because it is heavy and kind of thick. The low riding clip is great for being discrete but does have the tradeoff of not being as easy to draw the knife. Fit and finish was top notch, and no worries at all about the liner lock.

If at all possible, try to handle one first. The S2K was not a comfortable EDC pocket knife for me but it was very nice and made me partial to Al Mar knives in general.

If it helps, I am still delighted with my 710HS. It carries much more comfortably, has a lock works better for me, takes a finer edge more easily and holds it longer. I also like the nearly 4" recurve shape of the 710 better than the shorter spearpoint shape of the S2K.

I suppose if the SERE 2000 had been made with titanium liners I would never have bought a 710HS, or a 806D2, or a Spyderco Military. For me, the 710HS is my favorite of the bunch but there are plenty of perfectly good reasons to be a fanatical owner of the others.

I found the SERE to be the perfect EDC from the first time I got it in my hand. It fits my hand perfectly and feels absolutely natural when I hold it. It's a personal preference thing; I had a Strider SnG and it just seemed that it didn't fit my hand that well so I sold it. The Al Mar handle is as close to holding a fixed blade handle on a folder as you are going to get.

I'm serious when I say get both. This isn't a copout. They are both great knives.

I had a SERE for a while, and it one of the best edc knives there is. Sharp as hell, sits low in pocket, easy to resell, and built like a tank. I've never had a BM710 though.

I have read a lot of great comments about the Sere now since first hearing about it. I have not had the chance to handle one but I have handled and worked on a clip conversion of an AlMar Nomad. If the Sere 2000 is anything near the perfection of the Nomad it must be a great knife. I have the Nomad on my want list for 06 now after handling it for a couple of days. What a flawless piece of craftsmanship that knife is.

Get the 710. It pains me to say it, 'cause I love the S2K. Gave my first one away to my best friend but ordered another one immediately. It's a beautiful, very well made knife that fills the hand well. It comes hair-popping sharp, buttery-smooth, solide lockup. Some have had problems with lock slippage in the (IMHO useless) spin-whack test, but none of mine have.
Why, then, the 710? The 710 is extremely comfortable, the long, thin blade is, I believe, flat ground halfway to the spine, with a nice useful recurve. I have it in M2 tool steel with the (last I checked) unpopular coating. It is the better choice for EDC dor me, at least, because it is lighter and thinner feeling in the pocket.
You can't go wrong with either one, really. They're both extremely well made. If I could only have one, though, it would be the Benchmade. If I could swing it, though, I'd get them both. They seem to complement each other well.
Oh, and the Al Mar carries very well if you're wearing jeans.
