I have been wanting an Al Mar Sere 2000 for a long time now. With it's approx $150 price tag, I am wondering if it is worth the money, or if I should really just hold out and buy something a little more money...

I would really like one, but every one I know is either Die HARD for benchmade or spyderco and I don't know anyone who really has Al Mars....

Humm, can't agree with that about the lock. If I'm not mistaken, the Sere and Mini Sere are made by Moki in Japan, and I once had a very very respectable knifemaker inspect the finishing off the lock on a Mini Sere and he said it was done very well. That Mini Sere had one of the most confident lock up of any liner lock I've handled. Just talking about it makes me feel sad that I sold it and I'm probably gonna get a new one!

al mar's sere is a classic knife, in the same breath as benchmade's 710 and the spyderco military. get one. you won't be unhappy.

I had a mini-SERE and I still have a Nomad. The Al Mars I've owned and handled are top notch when it comes to F&F, they are light weight and still solidly made, they're as sharp as anybody O-O-B (even Spyderco), and their lockups are very solid for liner locks. Al Mar is one of the few companies that I would trust to do a liner lock right.

That said... I traded away the mini-SERE because I prefer a different blade profile for the use I give a knife. But that's just me. There was nothing wrong with the knife.

I really like my SERE's. I have both the mini and the full size and they are really top notch. The locks on both of mine lock up rock solid. They are both easily comparable to my Benchmades and Bradley's. The Mini is quickly becoming my favorite EDC.

I have the full size sere2k.I was a little leary at first like you, until I got it.That knife is a classic. It feels great in the hand.It has such a smooth action. The VG10 blade is razor sharp out of the box & it's liner lock is one of the best out there. It also has a low riding reversible pocket clip. You can probably find one under $150.I think I paid around $130 for mine.I forgot where.

I just bought a Falcon Ultralight, and I am very impressed with the fit and finsh. The materials are great to, but the fit is spot on. There is no movement in the lock at all, which even most of my spyderco lockbacks have. The grinds were thin and even. If the Sere had a different blade shape, I would get one myself. I love fine Japanese cutlery, I just ordered a knife made by MCusta, I expect the same level of quality.

I totally agree. It isn't talked about much, but no one can dispute its quality. I was thoroughly impressed when I handled my friend's SERE. I had my Spyderco Lil' Temp on me at the time and I thought the SERE put it to shame.

I have the Al Mar SERE 2000 and love it. The action is smooth as silk and theclip allows for deep pocket carry. It is a great knife .

I have a sere 2000...the lock is indisputably junk and the edge geometry is pathetic, it's heavy as sin. Other than that I love it!

My SERE has a very good, beefy, precison fit lock. It came with a good edge, too. The knife is a little heavy, with those thick stainless liners, but mine is very well-made and comparable to my Benchmades in quality.

When I handled one, I didn't like the design at all but it certainly seemed very high quality. I liked the Nomad better.

Get the sere 2000 and it will never let you down. Ive had it since it came out. Ive used it almost every day. Its a great knife
