I ordered one of these folders this morning and requested Overnight shipping so that I would have it this weekend. I had one several years ago and actually have another post asking about changes Al Mar made to this knife, if any. I really liked the one I had but ended up selling it for a reason that I can't even remember now. I always liked the shape and feel of the handle, and even though I would like a little more blade length I can live with 3.6". Of course it has the deep carry clip I'm so fanatical about, and since I got the black bladed version I'll also get the black clip which will be less visible with the darker pants I tend to wear.

I just put new batteries in my micrometer so I'll see first hand what the liner thickness and blade thickness is. I realize that this probably does not matter to a lot of you, but I'm always curious and would rather have thick liners vs. thin liners, and a blade thickness over 1/8"/.125".

I stated in the other post that I was seeing two different blade thickness's quoted. When the SERE 2000 originally came out the ads said the blade was 1/8" thick. But in doing some reading on this knife, via the Google.Bladeforums search, I read several comments about how thick the blade was, and how thick the liners were. The printed ads in magazines still quote blade thickness as 1/8" (per the lastest copy of Blade Magazine), but several online shops show, what appears to be specs from Al Mar, a blade thickness of .150". Again not much difference but if I had my choice I would want a .150" thick blade. As far as the liners go I seem to remeber something in the neighborhood of .065" to .070".

Can anyone comment on any of these thickness numbers?

I do think that if I really like the SERE 2000 all over again, that I'll try to track down a Vallotin conversion of one.

Btw, I still have this flashlight fetish as I went ahead and ordered an Olight T-10 Q5 with my SERE. Due to the Tax Man though, I'm having to skip the Olight T-20 Q5 for now, and will be putting the purchase of my Strider AR Digicam Ghost back to the end of Feb.

Now when did you say those guvmint REbate checks were acomin';):D

Seriuosly, if anyone knows the thickness of the liners or blade and can post them I would appreciate it!!:D

So My SERE 2000 just arrived and I thought I would go with some initial observations. Number 1, this is a small knife! It has been 5 years since I last saw or held one and in the intevening time I come to carry Strider AR's, BM Rukus'es, ZT0200's, and a few other LARGE knives. I'm thinking that maybe my perspective has been skewed a bit?!?! Anyway, back to more observations, the fit and finish is as good as it gets. Everything is mated with no gaps, low spots, or high spots. The action is butter smooth, lockup results in a solid twack, and upon closing the blade is perfectly centered within the handle. As far as the lockup goes, the liner comes over onto the blade tang so that the left side of the liner and left side of the blade tang are level with one another. The liner is stiff to disengage which I like for my liners to be. There is no side to side nor up and down play in the blade. Naturally I did the spine TAP and the liner stayed in the exact place it was at when first opened. Did 5 taps in succesive order and then used my hand on the back of the blade spine to apply, let off, apply, let off, and did this several times trying to "walk" the liner off the blade tang, liner never budged from original lockup. Everything seems to be tight as far as the screws go, and the black finish on the blade is nicely done and evenly done.

When compared to my large Sebenza, you can tell that the SERE is thicker and heavier, but when compared to my other edc knives, the SERE is small. Bad thing? Nope. This is a dang good knife, with great fit/finish, and should be robust enough to tackle any job I'm going to throw at it, and handle those jobs with ease and a little class! I'm tickled with it and already have it in my pocket to carry for the coming weekend and following week. I'm telling you, I really dig this deep carry pocket clip!:D:thumbup:

Forgot to add measurements; I used my micrometer to get the following measurements,

blade thickness: .140"
liner thickness: .060"

I can remember when I first saw this knife and thinking how thick the liners looked. Prior to the SERE I guess I was fooling with knives that had .050" liners, so the SERE liners did appear nicely thick. Today though, they look sorta thin, but being hardened steel I know that they will be more than adequate to do the job.

Thanks cutter17 I have been seriously considering the al mar sere as my next knife. Good to hear some positives.

I agree with cutter..the SERE 2000 is a damn fine knife.Smooth action,locks up like vault,comfy handle...I can go on & on:thumbup:

Now that I've carried it for several hours I've gotten to like it as I can hardly tell it's there. I do think I will take it apart and see if I can replace the teflon washers with some of the pb's I have.

I just have to comment on the sharpness of the blade out of the box as it is/was sharper out of the box than either of my BM 610's, which up to this point had been the sharpest knives I had ever felt out of the box.
