I have a few AL MAR SERE 3003A knives.. Some are marked SEKI JAPAN on reverse tang and others have a 3 digit number with no SEKI JAPAN.. Can anyone tell me why the different markings.. One of the numbered ones is a Presentation knife with VALADE engraving on the bolsters plus a SF master jump instructor engraving.. SF Captains name is on the handle.. I've asked several collectors and never same answer.. Thanks.

Hello Poncho, I am by no means an expert, but i have asked allot of questions to collectors who personally knew ALMAR and many of them told me the same thing..,
First AL MAR was extremely thoughtful and giving to collectors/family/friends, & clubs.. Many entities who were associated with AL MAR had special variations of his knives made called club knives.. I know AL MAR was big time into Martial Arts and i have personally seen certain models of his knives with Martial ARTS ogranzations names and etc.. I have also seen special club knives...

As for the SERE thats a special knife of its own.. AL MAR made special variations for the military branches with SF emblems.. Some of them were numbered for clubs or military groups.. I was told if a SERE FOLDER has a "*" it could be a reject, but hard for me to believe someone would go thru all the hassle to stamp it..

As for the SF master jump emblem i have seen that on a few of his knives.. Folders and fixed.. Mr.Valade is still around and he will tell you what I have told you..

Wish i had the opportunity to have boughten a knife directly from him! Thats the fun with collecting AL MARS is finding the rare stuff.. whether it be military or club versions

THANKS for the Info. DAX..
Up till now I've been told the numbered 3003s were "sold in PX on military bases", "for the Japanese market", "made for SERE graduates"

and "only gifts given by Al Mar".. Your info. helps. I'm new to the Forum but if I can figure out how to post a picture of the Presentation 3003 I have I'll do so.. I have been compiling alot of info. from several different sources about AL MAR knives over the years. Nothing that refers to the numbered 3003s has come up.. I think a special run for a club or military group, like you said, might be the ticket.. Again, THANKS.

my pleasure.. There is some info about numbered SERES on a SF forum with a few military guys commenting.. One of the SF guys actually had a SERE prototype that AL MAR gave to one of his SF (special Force) friends, who then passed it on to another.. The SF guys tend to pass the cool stuff down to others who can appreciate it..
