Hiya!
I was at my local gun store today (my hangout since moving to Nevada and haven't taken up drinking) and the owner wanted to trade his set(?) of AL Mar SERE fixed blade and folder for some guns I brought in on consignment.

I explained that being a knife knut, I already have both of these knives so he decided to put them up for sale at the store. The thing is, neither one of us know the real value of them.

The knives he has are in brand new condition, with sheath, box, papers, etc.

Does anyone know what they should sell for?

Thanks!
VG

Difficult to say as there are many different Al Mar SEREs, both fixed and folding. On a good day a fixed SERE might fetch $300 (similar to a large folding SERE(Attack)). Smaller folder....dunno...maybe $150.
Wouldn´t let the fixed go for less than $150 and folders for less than $100. But these figures are just my own point of view and not based on any books or anything. You might wanna check out ebay. They have 10-20 Al Mars of and on. The problem is that most people (knife-nuts included) don´t realize what kind of quality that these knives incorporate. Most ´Mars are made by Moki = better than many custom made knives. I have three ´Mar folders that I carry on a regular basis and I love them all.

Vampire Dude. Prices vary. I paid $100 each for two med. sized folders, $150 for a new large, $100 for a used(thanks Hugh) and $80 fot a small. Tell your dealer I've no idea what a fixed blade goes for. Tell your dealer I'll pay $350 for both.

Thanks, bill boyd

It's pretty bad when a moderator doesn't know where to post this type of question

Check out AG RUSSELL and also the TOOLSHOP they both have a large bit of Mars for sale and there prices are pretty far up for heavy fixed blades made out of AUS-6.

Pelle - I know that at least one of them is marked "Moki". As for the type od SERE, they're the only kind I've ever seen. (Pics to follow)
I'm with you as far as the quality of the Al Mars. I wouldn't let go of the ones that I have. The quality's excellent and I always loved the styles that he came up with.

Bill Dude - Yeesh, I really paid too much for mine! I'll pass this thread onto my dealer so if he wants to sell, he'll get a hold of you.
Thanks.

Strider - You should know by now that I only became a moderator at the Community Forum, since I really don't know squat about knives (or anything else for that matter!)
At least I DID look to see if there was an Al Mar Forum before posting here. :P
I'll take a look over there and see what I can find.
Thankls!

Thanks for your vote of confidence, Bill. I am glad that you like that old dude of a knife. The funny thing is that at least to others had turned it down before you bought it. It only needed an appreciative owner.
