Greetings all,

I just recieved the knife about an hour ago via UPS. I will use it for the next 4 days then post my full review. I haven't had much time to really check it out but I can already say I am pleasantly suprised.

First off, the Shrike is much larger than I thought it was, which is good, b/c I tend to like larger folders. Also it is one of the smoothest folders I have ever handled.

Well that's all for now. Expect more on Monday night/Tueday morning, then its off to Medic1210. Thanks again to Mike Dye at New Graham Knives and Gary Fadden at Al Mar Knives for letting us test this baby out. :)

Don't be too hard on it. I want to be able to enjoy it also.;) Looking forward to trying it out.

Mike

smooooooth! That is the first thing I noticed about mine. One of the smoothest opening production knives I have yet to handle.

I have to agree with Dennis, I got mine a few days ago and it really is incredibly smooth. I think it is very much like an AFCK in how it fits the hand and in the point to handle relationship. It is quite thick, which is good for the grip but not so good for the pocket. Overall I like this knife very much, it's very good looking and appears to be very well built.:)

I'm gettin' one from One Stop if I can ever pay off my "Spydie deficit"! :( Looks to be the usual Al Mar quality ;) I'd like to see it with partial serration(s) ;)

AET ;)

So guys the things wicked looking when you open it up the 1st time ain't it! I'd love to see it with G-10 handles myself like the SERE2000. Or like the custom I think it was shootist16 posted awhile back. Cool knife though points great just plain natural feeling. shootist16 you been carrying yours since you bought it? hows it holding up? and your right they are smooth and slick opening.

I thought the same thing, I even said so in a thread awhile back, but every one said they didn't see the similarities.

It's not a clone, but the general shape, fit, and profile are very similar.

Al Mar Shrike Review

Greetings all,

Yet another great passaround you guys have given me an opportunity to be a part of. I would first like to start out by say to DaveH, Mike Dye, and Gary Fadden YOU GUYS SUCK!!! :D Why you might ask?? Because life was complicated enough when my want list consisted of Benchmade, Spyderco, Emerson, Microtech, ETC….. No you can most likely add a whole new product line.

On a serious note, thanks guys, this has really opened up my eyes to a whole brand of knives that I was overlooking. If you look threw my old posts I am sure you’ll even find me saying that I wasn’t impressed with Al Mars (Never having handled nor seen one in person) So when I opened the box when I received the Shrike, I was extremely surprised. Here are my observations over the last few days:

-It’s allot bigger than I thought. I am not sure why, but when I looked at pictures of this knife online, it didn’t really appear full size to me. It’s the perfect size for my taste when it comes to an EDC

-It’s Smooth!!!!!!!! VERY SMOOTH, The blade locks up like Fort Knox, yet it’s only a flip of the thumb to open and a small push of the thumb to close.

-The Liner Lock on this one hits dead center and is very easy to disengage, yet I would never worry about accidentally disengaging it.

-The Fit and Finish on this one is awesome.

-The standard dual thumb stud is superb. I can honestly say this one of the only folders that I can actually use my left hand to open. Considering I carry my Primary EDC clipped inside my left pocket, this is something that’s very useful for me.

-It came to me razor sharp and maintained it’s edge throughout the time I have used it. The blade seems kind of thin, this may just be me, but don’t get me wrong, it’s an awesome slicer.

-I even like how the clip is attached to the scale.

As far as what I did with it, I passed on the whittling and stuff like that and just treated it as if it were one of my EDCs, it cut plenty of cardboard, tape, packages and other similar daily tasks. If I had to sit here and think of something to change about this knife I would be hard pressed to find anything. Maybe a Limited Edition with Carbon Fiber scales, but as far as every day user, they nailed this one.

The price is defiantly fair and is consistent with other knives of this quality. Overall I like it allot, and plan to get one once I knock off a few of the wants I have had on the list for some time. (I have decided on a no line jumping privilege for my want list)

I would like to thank everyone that made this possible, and to those who expressed concern, after a little oil, I could probably still pass it off as NIB, so Medic your up next, Its on it way to you tomorrow and I will e-mail you the info after my visit to the Post Office. Thanks Again
