I haven't seen much on here about the Al Mar ultralights. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on these ?

I had a Falcon. Very nice F&F, thin and sharp OOB. Studs a little rough with the knurled surface, and the spring was tight, so one handed opening wasn't that pleasing. Wish they were about $10 cheaper on internet pricing on AUS8 and linerless micarta.

I have the falcon also, as said above F&F are very good. The blade is thin and sharp, a very good cutter. I carry mine in the summer as even with shorts it is light and hardly noticable. I can't remember what I paid but it has been a good knife.

I too was on the verge of buying one of the Hawk ultralights but decided to get a Mini Griptilian instead.
The thin blade was the only thing that made me decide against it. But honestly, I think I will eventually pick one up as well. Good price, and super light.

I was thinking that they were thin, hard to tell in pics though. Almost look like a gents? folder. I guess thats why they make the Sere model though, if a person wants a bigger, hard use knife.

I just got a Falcon Ultralite Talon from a friend in the mail as a gift and have to say it appears to me to be a perfect size and shape for everyday carry. Its AUS8 steel which doesn't really set it up there as a super find but I like that steel just fine for a beater knife. Again someone managed to find something that would have flown below my radar had it not been sent to me.

I carried a Buck Esquire (now the Squire) for years and had always wanted another similar sized knife only with the pocket clip and thumb stud option. This is about the perfect replacement for that one for anyone interested. The Buck is a fine competitor to the AL-Mar but since I can't put a clip on those hard steel bolsters easily I'll go with the Falcon.

The only other thing I find that I'm not really all that fond of is the front lock. I would really prefer it back a bit more personally more like Spydeco's mid lock. I have almost accidentally released the lock with my thumb twice now. Otherwise its a great knife.

What a great way to try out a new knife, especially one you might not have otherwise purchased..... The only friend I have thats really into knives is only in to high end stuff, so it doesn't seem to make it my way LOL I've really started to like thin knives for edc. . I've never handled one so I'm not familiar with the front lock on them. Gonna have to find somewhere to look and fondle them.

I've been carrying my Hawk Ultralight on my keychain for the last few months. So far I'm very happy with it. It locks up very solidly and there is no play whatsoever. I've never accidentally released the lock. It's still sharp as sharp as new (damn sharp) and I've used it quite a bit on some tough jobs.

I have a Hawk. It's one of my favorites. Light, cuts well, and the sheeple don't mind it....:D
