Al Mar ultralight blade shapes - talon vs flat

Does anybody have any experience with the different styles of Al Mar Ultralight blades? I'm wanting to get one, but noticed that they come in flat ground or the new "talon" profile. (It's a false edge.)

Does the talon profile mean the grind is steeper from the midline of the blade to the edge? Would the original, flat grind be a better slicer?

And while you're at it, which model? Hawk, Falcon, or Eagle? I'm thinking of a utility knife for EDC. I don't care whether or not there's a clip, in fact it would be a pleasant change to carry a clipless utility knife once in a while.

And for SURE a nice change to get away from liner locks.

Ah one of my favorite knives. I broke the clip off mine after about 2 years of carry (was my fault it broke though) and I am waiting for the new one to come. Mines the Falcon Ultralight with the "Flat Grind" and it's a greater EDC knife slices well is lite and flat in the pocket and even though it it feels "delicate" it's stands up to allot of abuse trust me on that one. I really dont see much of a diff in the 2 blades as far as use will come in, I think you should go with which ever one you like the looks of the best. Both blades are thin and made for slicing type cuts so I think either will work out. I always liked the looks of the weehawk looking blade the best though. Mine with a plain edge will take a wicked edge. Did just remeber mine says 115 of 200 on it above the falcon ultralight on the blade, Never understood what it meant exactlly.

Editing to add:

Im looking at the Al Mar 2002 Catalog, and what I see is that the Ultralight series :the Eagle the Falcon and the Hawk Ultalights all come with the Flatground blade but the Talon Series: Eagle Talon, Falcon Talon, Hawk Talon all come with the flat ground blade with false edge (this is how its worded in thier book, I call it a weehawk blade).

The Talon Series are larger then the Ultralight's (a little )but have the same handle profile and general shape. both have the pro-clip system and have black linen micarta handles and AUS-8 Stainless steel blades. Looks like you can get 40% serrations on the Ultralights but not on the Talon series.

So if your going with the ultralights youll be getting the flat ground blade :) which I like on mine anyway.

Sorry to add so much in I just like Al Mar knives and I think they tend to not get as much attention as they deserve around here. Of course I pretty much like something from every knife Co. :)

The flat grind plain blade eagle is super carry knife.
It's one of those knives that doesn't look like much
but use it for just a bit and yer hooked!:D

The false edge version has more visual zip but no
more go:rolleyes:
