Hi,

I recently found a knife I'd lost a while ago. A absolutely love this knife, its way better then its size lets on, it so functional yet stylish.

However whilst it'd been lost, the knife has developed some minor pitting to the finish of the blade and some rust on the back spring make it stiffer and not smooth.

The issue is the knife is pinned together so it is not trivial to take it apart to clean and oil it.

Does anyone have any idea how I can clean up this knife?

I come across knives like this fairly regularly and this is what I’d do:
1. Scrub the knife with hot tap water and a toothbrush, making sure to run the water through the pivot while working the blade through its arc
2. Clean the inside of the knife and the lock step with toothpicks
3. Clean any remaining rust on the blade tang with metal polish (semichrome, mothers, etc) on a q-tip.
4. DO NOT get aggressive with the polishing paste around the etch or you’ll take the color out of it.
5. Clean it under hot tap water again to get any cleaning residue out.
6. Oil it, sharpen it, sit on the couch and play with it, ENJOY

All of the above, but if you have a dremel with a brass (not steel!) wire brush, that can help remove the stubborn bits (but don't use near the etched logo)

Thanks for the ideas, I doubt I'll get chance to attack it til the weekend but I'll report back!
