Does anyone have any experience with these folders? They appear to be very thin and lightweight. They come in three models with blade lengths ranging from 2 3/4" to 4" (Hawk, Falcon, and Eagle). I am wondering if they would hold up under moderate to heavy use or whether they should be relegated to occasional light duty. I have never been able to find one in a local store, but will keep looking if I get some favorable comments. Thanks.

It depends on what you consider heavy use. Although I don't own one personally, Al Mar's SERE 2000 is well regarded by many forum members here, and it is much stouter than their lightweights.

PS: Welcome to the forums.

I've got a Falcon, was initially impressed with how light and thin it was, but still seemed to be of a solid construction and a rather durable mid-locking folder. But after just a few wks. of opening letters/parcels, peeling fruit, cutting steak...it has developed noticeable vertical blade-play. Unacceptable, IMO, given their cost. They're not cheap! And, yes, I have lubed and cleaned it regularly, and it has seen no abuse (as do none of my knives, save a beater or two).

Had a Hawk in my luggage that was permanently lost by U.S.Airways. It was a good carry knife with a business suit....nice and light with a thin profile. The steel held a good edge and sharpened easily. I have no opinions on hard use as mine was used to open boxes, envelopes, cut fruit, etc. Also, would recommend a plain blade as opposed to a partially serrated one. I've had good luck with Al Mar knives.

I had the same experience with my Falcon developing vertical play in less than a year of rather light use.
