Al Mar

Um... what 6a steel? I went to their site and the "lowest" they have is at least AUS8, which is pretty decent in itself.

Sorry, Let me be more specific. I am not making reference to the relatively inexpensive folders they are currently offering on the web site you visited, but rather the extensive line of fixed blades they marketed here in the 80's and 90's.

The original Al Mar line was was very innovative design wise, and was top of the line as far as fit, and finish was concerned. Their steel choices changed with th time's also, they were one of the first to use ATS - 34(Their Elite & Woodsman line's).

I personally believe the steel question is overrater, I don't believe the average user could tell 154-CM from 440C, etc....:).

:D:).
