Much like William B Moran is to the pattern welded form of Damascus so is Al Pendray to the Wootz Damascus. While it is unlikely that I'll ever come across a Moran I would be able to purchase, I did get the opportunity to obtain this fine example of Al Pendray's Wootz in the form of a marvelous Bowie
OAL is 13" with a 8 1/2 blade. Fittings are coin silver and the handle is fossil walrus ivory.
Al is 3rd generation Blacksmith as I recall and does not do sharp grind lines intentionally to reduce the possibility of stress fractures and thus a stronger blade. This is one heavy, sturdy piece of steel for sure and to me is an important part of knife history.
