There is an article on Polkowski knives in the sep.98" issue of combat knives.Models include many that are a collaboration of work between Al and Bob kasper. The polecat, the Bulldog, the Mongoose just to name a few.All come with kydex IWB sheaths. All look very "attractive" for defensive work, on paper, but experience has made me cautious.I have shot may handguns that looked good and felt good until you shoot them! I am particularly interseted in Polkowski's new model " the scorpion"..Has anybody out there ever owned one of these knives and sheaths? Has anyone had one in hand? How do they feel? Is the quality "in hand" as good as it looks on paper? Any input would be appreciated!! thanks,Rob..

Rob,

Check out my review of the Scorpion in the Knife Reviews! forum dated 23Feb99. In short, great knife.

Have you visited Bob Kasper's site on his fighting knives?

Rob L., the Kasper designed Polkowskis are true fighting knives. I have a Kasper Companion(4") and a Kasper Pug(5") and have carried both on a regular basis. I' ve handled a Scorpion(4.5") and it fits the hand every bit as well as the 2 I own. In fact, I plan to pick up a Scorpion soon as I am quite partial to its serrated thumb ramp.
Als "rapid deployment" sheaths made for strong side abdomen draw is every bit as fast as the articles say they are. His current IWB sheaths are designed to be carried at a cant orienting the handle towards the outside of the body, secured to the belt via a "j" hook. Very comfortable and concealable.
An observation: his blades need some patience to sharpen as their grinds are somewhat steep.
You can' t go wrong with a Polkowski Kasper blade. Hope this helps a bit.

So, Nakano 2, how about a review of your Companion and Pug to the Reviews forum? Perhaps along the lines of Axel's review of his Scorpion, which I found most interesting and informative?

Markku,

Thanks again for the compliment. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a Polkowski Gaunt and review that in the future.

Nakano,

My Scorpion doesn't have serrations on the thumb ramp. The thumb ramp is smooth. Did the one you handled have a serrated thumb ramp? If so, I wonder if Al has that as an option or if it was modified after market.

Axel

Markku, thanks for the suggestion. I think I' ll do that.

Axel, there was something that you mentioned in your past post(s) on the Scorpion that continued to nag me for some reason. Now I know what it was! You said there were no serrations(filework) on the thumbramp of your Scorpion! But when I visited Als table at the last NY show I am sure there were serrations on the Scorpions I handled! Further, Kevin Gentille(Knifehead) showed me his personal Scorpion and I am sure there were serrations on his also. Of course, I could be mistaken... But the Companion has filework and and it follows that the Scorpion should too. Hmmmm...

Nakano,

Interesting. I'm sure you have checked out Bob Kasper's Gung-Ho Chuan web site to look at his Fighting Knives pictures. The Scorpion pictured does not have notches on the thumb ramp, but the Companion has them on the blade spine. I have three AFCKs modified by Kevin Gentile. I wonder if he put the notches on the Scorpion himself. Though I find it odd that he would find it necessary to change Bob Kasper's design. Maybe I'll email Kevin about the thumb ramp.
