The knife laws in Alabama are very vague, they state you cant carry concealed a bowie or knife of similar likeness. What does this mean? I want to buy a small fixed blade to EDC because i like fixed blades more than folders. But the vague laws have me worried , what can i carry as a fixed blade without causing trouble? Concealed or OC? I want to carry a ka-bar TDI or something similar. Any insight is appreciated.

This is a good question. My edc is a hand made in my shop.3" fixed blade. With the right shirt on it is "concealed".However I have never had anyone say anything even when i carry some of my larger blades.

It is very vague and mostly left up to the interpretation of the local district attorney. However, case law so far, seems to suggest that a fixed blade with a blade length of 4" or less, 11" over all, that can be concealed in a normal pants pocket, is OK. This of course does not take into consideration any local city ordinances, and of course open carry is OK.

I'm a police officer and this is what a da told me. Most police won't know what the exact law is either because it's so vague.
