Alabama highway # 78

Anyone know if # 78 is finished between Birmingham & Jasper? Planning our route to Salina Kansas for M-co. 8th Cavalry Regiment's reunion & looking for the most expeditious route from Florida.

Any info appreciated since my atlas is undated & is several years old.

Hwy 78. I was through there last year, and expcept for a few places, it is four lane all the way. Very good road. You may want to stop in and see Don Fogg when you go through Jasper.

Our Florida gas is hovering around $3.00.Slight drop to $2.91 but I believe it is temporary.
Alabama is usually a fair bit cheaper but I've noticed in my many trips through that there can be a good variation within the state.

Any good word on prices there today ?

No Uncle Alan....... I'm sorry to say that all gas is higher than a crooked lawyer's fees. Look for "RaceTrack, or RaceWay stations. They are usually a few cents per gallon cheaper.

Enjoy your trip, and be very careful. There are a lot of nutz out there.

You can also check out Alabamas Dept of Transportation website, most state transportation websites I've visited keep good updates on their highway construction pages.

Thank you. We'll be heading through Arkansas & on to Memphis .

Anyone along that route offer gas prices,please ?

Figure to spend between $450 & $ 550 0n gas. Wife's '07 Yukon is SUPPOSED to deliver 23 mpg at highway speeds. Fourth gear kicks in at 55 mph & rpms drop below 2,000 beyond that.

It's about $2.77 in N. Miss., perhaps a penny or two cheaper in towns besides mine. 78 is pretty good from Tupelo to B'ham. As mentioned, goes to 2 lanes for a short piece but is mostly 4 lane.
