Howdy Folks,

I bought an Alabama Damascus skinner blank and got it yesterday. My question is the cheeks or flats on the blade are 9/64" different from side to side, making the blade grinds fairly different. I emailed them shortly after getting it asking if this was normal but haven't heard back yet.

Would that be acceptable to you all?

thanks, Pete

Well with 75 views and no response I'm wondering if the question is understood, so here are pics. the pic measures the grind , not the cheek but you get the drift.

I'll say it,
To me that would be unacceptable.
Mistakes do happen though and flaws slip through QC cracks.
Contact them, show them the pictures, then move ahead based off their response.
I have always heard that Alabama Damascus is very easy to work with.
Good Luck.

OP, you are correct. It was hard to understand exactly the problem without photos. I'm "assuming" the grind height is different on the other side? If so, take good clear photos where the distance will show on the calipers. One photo for each side showing the difference in grind height.

Big Chris has the right idea - show the photos to Alabama Damascus and I do think they'll take care of the problem.

I don't understand. Can you not see the pics?

I emailed AD on Wednesday, sent a second email with pics Thursday and as of today have no response. Imo, a few days with no response isn't great customer service. The email wasn't rude. I simply asked if this was normal or abnormal.

A shame as I was really looking forward to this knife.

Pete

I only see one photo with bevel shown on one side only. I can read the dimension on the caliper display. Once you showed the photo I did get an idea what you're talking about.

It's always possible your email got caught in Alabama Damascus's spam folder. Give them a phone call telling them you've sent an email and described the problem over the phone.

kossetx - it is Christmas weekend ... nobody is getting right back to an email. That is why I said to call them.

3 weeks and never did hear back from them...

Mailed the blank back and got a refund, but no reply.
