Recently picked up this folder from Alan and wanted to share some pics and a vid. I've been eye balling his stuff for a while and at the same time wanting to try a left hand folder (I'm a righty). When I saw this one come up I grabbed it and have been very pleased. It has some nicely matched gnarly stag and the blade is made from an antique misery whip (two man cross cut saw). I figured this would make an awesome slicer and as you can see from the pics it is. Some of those grape and celery pieces are transparently thin. The blade came VERY sharp but I did put a little love on the edge. It's a bit of a rustic knife but that was one of the draws for me. I was worried when I pulled it out of the box and it failed a very soft spine whack test but after some hard openings it worked in very well and is rock solid now. With that thin of a blade the tolerances are pretty tight, Alan did a good job there. I like it enough that I placed an order for a larger copy (4 inch blade) in a right hand config. If you watch the vid you can see that I'm quite comfortable using it with my left hand.

Alan makes great knives that look good, and work better. My only folder with comparable lockup is my Elishewitz folder, and that counts for all 4 folders I have from Alan. He is great to deal with, and just sent me my first grail knife. Too bad I cannot afford more. I liked the look of that folder when I first saw it, I still do not have a Misery Whip from him.

That has to be one of my favorite folders I have seen! I like everything about it.
