Dan Shechtman asked me to do something similar to the Puma Whitehunter but simplify the blade and beef up the whole knife. This is what I came up with. O1 steel, 3/16" thick by 1 1/2" wide, 6" cutting edge, green canvas micarta scales, stainless guard. He's planning a trip to Alaska this summer and will be using it on the trip.

Impressive, Scott! Boy, would I love to give that one a test drive.

Mr. Shechtman must have a goodly collection of Gossman knives by now. It should be interesting to read how he puts this knife to use in Alaska.

Nice!

Thanks. This is actually something I've wanted to do for a couple of years. I've always liked the Whitehunter but the handle was just not comfortable. Alot of history behind the Whitehunter.

I wish you would, just for once, make a knife I didn't like Scott !!!

In saying that though, if it were mine, I would have gone with some of your nice wooden handle slabs !!!

Thats a sweet knife, I'm starting to get the feeling that I should get one of your knives. Every one I've seen looks awesome.

Scott, Very nice. A respectable tribute to the Whitehunter!!! Keep up the nice work.

Very, very beautiful, Scott. I love convex grinds:thumbup:. I also like the recessed thumb notch...you don't see that too often.

Thanks again guys. pitdog, wood would look great but for the ultimate in durability, micarta is hard to beat. My two favorite micartas are maroon linen and black/green linen.

I like the design, and it looks like one tough cutter, it should serve him well. dan is my favorite TK writer, hope he does an article on his trip and the knife.

He does plan on some type of write up. Not sure which magazine. He's very interested in the history of the Whitehunter. Especially during the Vietnam war plus it's use by many survival experts.

That's a really nice knife. I always used to like the look of the white hunter (going back a lot of years) but could never afford one back then. Yours certainly looks an excellent, usable and durable interpretation.
