I went to Alaska a few years ago to follow my Grandfather's journal from when he lived there in the 30's. Here's a few of the pictures I took along the way.

I used a Canon 1D and mostly a Canon 200/1.8 lens with a 1.4x and 2x teleconverter.

Sorry, I'm not so clever with the titles as Ron. Feel free to post travel pics in this thread, but please no hunting pics. Thanks:D

absolutely stunning!!!!

especially the animial pics. how'd you get so close to the grizzly? or any of them? is that just the benefit of a telephoto lens?

Very nice pics.

I would love to get up to Alaska some time. I am a flatlander from the sunshine state. The snow covered mountains look soooooo inviting.

Send more pics please.

LOL, funny story that. I was driving along the hiway and saw the bear on the side of the road. It was a pretty small one(about two years old) and just sitting there eating. I pull over, jump out of the car and open the back door and grab my camera.

Suddenly, I hear my Mom screaming and notice the car is moving. I left it in DRIVE!!!! I dive in an hit the brake with my hand and shove it into Park. I get out, focus on the bear and realize I'm only able to frame PART of it's face. I realize I'm an idiot, squeeze off a couple shots, and jumped back in the car. I was only about 15 feet away from it. It didn't seem to concerned and wandered away after a minute or so.

I was really lucky.:o

My lens is only a 200mm and with the 1.4x converter it's a 280mm/2.5. The camera also has a 1.3x crop so that helps a little.

The pics are stunning. Thank you for posting them.

As for the no hunting pics mandate, I've never had an urge to post hunting pics here, but I really wonder about the objections to them. Especially if they're coming from folks who gobble down meat at Fogo. :p

I don't really have an objection to the hunting pics. I just think they should have a separate thread. I'd like this one to just have pretty pics without the controversy hunting pics may add.

W:eek:W, C:cool::cool:L pix!!!! Thank you for posting them, those are great shots!
