We hooked up our cable six months ago and I was surprised by the number of reality shows that are based in Alaska. Having lived here for over 30 years I can understand the fascination with this incredible state. Is anyone here hooked on any of the batch of shows now showing?

I watch some of them. Alaska State Troopers and Flying Wild Alaska. I watched a few of the Tougher in Alaska series.

It's good to watch people trying to get things done at something below zero with a 30 knot wind while I sit in my 71 degree home. :D

I see that you are in Fairbanks. I have had dealings with the Fairbanks PD and airport PD. I remember a call from an airport cop telling
me that the windchill on the runway was -75.

Wouldn't say I'm hooked on any, some are interesting at times.

Had a childhood GF in Hawai'i that bounced between her folks, Dad was in Fairbanks. Never could figure out how she dealt with going between the two extremes.

Pulled in to Anchorage with the Constellation in 86. Nice country.

I caught most of the Sarah Palin series and watch Flying Wild. I'm less enthusiaistic about Gold Rush, but apparently they get a big audience. Seems there are shows about Alaska on every night.

I watched some of Sarah Palins shows and Ax Men on the History channel has a crew that works in Alaska, they just completed a cut on a tract that was on an island that was suppose to have been worth a million bucks. That was pretty interesting logging,I can't even imagine a 40minute boat ride every morning to get to work, they had a tug company that just hauled the logs away on this weeks episode,it's pretty wild watching how they operate.

Haven't checked any of those reality shows out. Did spend a couple years at Wainwright in the mid-70s, though. Loved my time up there, so much to see and do if you like the great outdoors, didn't even mind the cold too much. The Northern Lights and summers almost made up for it. ;)

I've watched some Ax Men episodes where the go from AK to FL. Last season I watched most of the Deadliest Catch episodes. I was bummed about Phil.

i took the boat up to Skagway, rented a car and drove over 3,000 miles around the state a couple of years ago.....I watch all the shows.....Have lots of great pictures......Beautiful...........Now for the iditarod........carl

I would be interested in seeing your pictures and some details on your travels. I'm planning on trip like this in a year or so.

I watched the Alaska Experiment. I wish I could get on that show; looks like a lot of fun.

I'm kind of hooked on the Alaska shows too. Not really sure why. I guess it's because I would really like to see Alaska (one of the few states I haven't been too). Hopefully in the next year or two I'll be able to see Alaska for myself...

Hi akivory -

I like the Alaska State Troopers, and have watched a couple episodes of Ice Road Truckers.

I IRT watch mostly for the scenery.

Two years ago, two friends and I rode our motorcycles from central Illinois to the Deadhorse Camp, and back.

We stopped in Fairbanks, Palmer, Anchorage, and also had a great evening in Healy at the White Moose Lodge.

I have hundreds of pictures of the trip posted here:

Alaska starts on page 14.

I loved Alaska, it was an epic trip and I'll be back someday.

best regards -

With the Woods and Mountains calling my name ever since I can remember, I started watching Saturday or Sunday morning Fishing and Hunting in Alaska shows on TV before it was popular.

Next came Gold Fever.

I have watched , I think every new show at least once that was about surviving, living and working in Alaska. :)

The wife would like to visit the place but I keep telling her, once I get there, I might not be coming back. :D

I happened to catch the last few minutes of Alaska Troopers on Sunday. Now it's Tuesday and I've seen all five episodes on the ondemand digital cable box. I'm hooked. Thanks a lot OP. :grumpy:

Ariel Tweeto from Flying Wild is a hoot - and cute as hell. She cracked me up on one episode when she said "I'm like the the world's worst Eskimo - I HATE cold weather." :D
