Hey there everyone,

I would like advice/help on getting a job on the north slope. I am originally from MN but spent 3 years in the oilfields in Utah. I am currently running frac sand in Wisconsin for the same company I worked for in Utah. Before I decided to go into the oil/gas industry, I was a carpenter for 8 years. After long discussions with my wife we decided we are interested in moving to Alaska. I am very mechanicaly inclined, professional, quick to think in tight situations, and have a very strong work ethic. I'm not interested in getting rich quick, (like some people like to tell you on all these shows you see nowadays)just providing a rewarding life for my wife and 3 children. I have tried applying to jobs online but haven't had the opportunity to be blessed with such a great job. I met a fellow in southern MN about 5 years ago that offered me a job up there but I was not in the position ( ready to have a baby) to leave unfortunately. Ever since then, that day has played back in my head 1000s of times. Anyways, any help/leads/anything would be more then appreciated. :D

None of the companies that know you have operations in Alaska, or connections to companies that do? Try reaching out through your current company to their contractors and clients.

I don't know of any contacts that work up in Alaska. That's why I'm here asking if anyone could help out. Thanks for the suggestion though. I will look into it.

I used to work in the gasfield for a small geology company. Don't know where any of those ended up when the drilling stopped, but mudlogging might be an easy way in. No one wants that job. Well, no normal people anyway. ;) Plus, you'll make connections with the drilling companies, other sub-contractors, and the client companies.

Good luck.

I do not have connections up North anymore. I flew to Minneapolis last month and the guy next to me was going to work in the oil fields in North Dakota. He was a Alaska native and said the pay was better there and our fields are on the decline. I know it is not a life that is conducive to family life.
Fort Knox gold mine just north of Fairbanks is usually hiring folks with your skills.
The pay is good and with the 12 hour shifts you get time off. I think they have over 600 employees. The nice thing is you can come home at night.

I talked to a friend yesterday who was in town on R and R from the slope. He said there are some jobs opening up. C2mh Hill is gearing up and will be hiring laborers soon. evidently they start at $ 22 per hour with a lot of overtime. Thier website lists other jobs that pay more.

North Dakota fields are supposed to booming now. Williston area. I have a friend from Tx working with a rig moving company up there. 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off. 100 grand a year.--KV
