On the Cabela's site, the Alaskan 110 blade is shown with a rather large "fixture" on the blade--black with the words "Alaskan" and "guide" and with picture of a ram.

Picture here: http://tinyurl.com/b2mml

Is this a sticker that comes off? Or is this something that is more permanently affixed to the blade?

Thinking about picking up one of these unless the Custom Shop starts offering S30V. But I would hope that thingamabob comes off the blade.

It is a permanent fixture. I don't recall exactly, but I think that it is etched and plated into the blade. Considering the hardness of the coating around it, it should be real hard to remove. You'd need to at least remove the coating from the entire blade and maybe even go deeper than that if you wanted to eliminate it.

I admit that I would have bought one already but for that emblem. It's a little pretentious. WHERE'S THE CUSTOM SHOP?????

I just got mine in the mail today and its real nice.If Ihad a choice I would not want the logo but it's a great knife with great steel at a bargin price tou cant go wrong.......bigfish

Do a search here for Alaskan Guide. We have been kicking this one around for a couple months now.

I USED an AG 110 and a 192 during this hunting season. Believe me, the emblem didn't interfer with anything. You hardly notice them when in use. And, they aren't bad looking when you aren't using them.

They are one of the best values around for an S30V blade. IMHO... for what thats worth. I know this combo will now be my "hunting knives".

I disremember what thread it is in, but IIRC someone posted that it is a graphic applied over the Titanium Nitride coating and can be removed with a razor blade...but I haven't tried it, so don't shoot me if it doesn't work... :p

Try Searching this Forum, it wasn't too long ago... :)

I have a Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series 110 that I carry every day. I'm not only a fan of Buck Knives, but a trip to a Cabela's store is like a religious pilgrimage for me, so I guess I don't have a problem with the little ram on the blade. The knife still does what I want it to do and does it very well. I'd certainly rather give my money to Buck, via Cabela's, then through the Walmart Corporation. But, there are other options:

1. Deal directly with the Buck Custom shop.

2. Buy a Wallyworld Buck for $24 and change, send it to Buck for a $35 blade upgrade, buy a custom made leather sheath for $15 and you get a free tin can and bottle opener that looks like a whitetail deer.:grumpy:

3. Buy an Alaskan Guide Series 110 through Cabela's for $59.99 and be done with it.;)

Of course, this is all my own oppinion. Any way you go, a Buck is still a Buck.

As I posted elsewhere, the logo on the blade is just paint. I found that I could remove it with paint-removing solvents like acetone or methyl ethyl ketone ("MEK") if I was patient and rubbed a lot. More rapidly, I could soften the paint and then shave it off with a utility knife blade held at a shallow angle, followed by a cleanup with the solvent.

Hey you guys. The way I see it there are two ways to look at it. I am a collector, and this is, or soon to be a collectible Buck knife. You know that no current model of a Buck knife is made more than a few years without some change or at least a year mark change. If you are not a collector and going to use it what difference does it make when you are cutting cardboard or scraping off some old dirty old head gasket etc. Just my two cents.
