Is the Buck 110 Alaskan Guide knife worth $90 + tax?? I recently joined this forum after picking up a 110 (had lost my 112 years ago) and it has spurred a renewed interest in knives, primarily bucks. This knife and the discontinued Bass Pro version seem pretty neat, but I understand the prices have crept up. I called the Cabelas near me and they have some. There seems to be a variety of opinions on SV30... 420hc does work fine. Just curious on your thoughts, thanks.

The Buck web outlet recently sold (unmarked) Bass Pro versions for $35. That might have suppressed the secondary market value for awhile. Early this spring, I had a spare AG in unopened package for sale here in the Exchange, and it took awhile to find a buyer at $70. So, they're great knives, and value is in the eye of the beholder, but I would maybe watch the exchange for awhile.

Thanks for the quick replies, that's kind of how I feel.

None of the Bass Pro 110's were marked. You must be thinking of Cabela's Alaskan Guide. :)

They are worth the $90,absolutely a great all around knife that can't be beat ,especially out hunting!Stays sharp a good long while,i know how to sharpen my knives, but i don't like to do so while actually dressing critters and woring in camp.Save that for a night by the fire with some whiskey on ice!

Or.......you could snag an older 110 with a 440C blade for half that or less on e-Bay and have an equal or better knife.

:)

And Buck will make it look like new if you send it in for a spa treatment.........cost is about $10 to you (they pay return ship).

I tossed the links up quick as I was on my lunch hour, there is a bunch more threads on the AG 110's. Almost all who have used these knives in the field love them. I have been EDCing mine for the last 7 years (except at work, the sheeples cower in fear). How do I like it....it's not for sale at any price! No need for me to say any more. If you would like, I can search out a few more old threads if you have not made up your mind yet;).

Thanks, I did read through those, makes me want one. But there are a number of knives I am interested in right now and my current collection should suffice for the time while I shop around and try to find a deal.

I just looked through 2 old Cabelas catalogues I have (a 2006 and 2001.) The 2001 had only a "Cabelas guide series" -probably chinese, and a lot of regular bucks or "buck pro line." and the 2006 had Alaskan Guide knives but only showed three and none were the 110. The alpha hunter fixed was listed about $105, so indeed prices have gone up.

If you could wait a few weeks, you could order a Buck Custom Shop 110 in S30V, nickel silver bolsters, and one of several choices of scale material - with or without rivets - and have enough of your $90 left for lunch at McD's, if you aren't real picky or hungry. I have several - and an AG 110. I was never fond of the gold labels or black coat on the AG-110. The CPM154 BP 110s were a recent bargain - and clearly marked just like the original BP 110 - neither has anything about Bass Pro on them. BTW, the Buck Custom Shop even offered BG42 once upon a time. Very nice knives. This one, S30V, NS bolster, blue Dymondwood, was $84 delivered a year or so back.

Of course, for quick availability, the AG 110 is a great knife - and Buck's S30V keeps an edge quite well - and is a chore to re-edge, too!
