Weird things happening around here. Right now it's obviously mid August which means Alaskan's should be enjoying Silver salmon fishing. But the strange thing is that we are still having strong numbers of red salmon coming into the rivers. Normally it's only silvers and the reds are pretty much done for the year.

Oh nooooooooooo.... Right now in the kenai river, there are Red Salmon, Silver (coho) Salmon, Pink Salmon AND Chum salmon. I may be wrong but that just seems weird. Any other Alaskan's out there agree or am I off base?

Anyway, should hopefully do a Suicide Run tomorrow night.

Suicide Run: Get off work at 7pm. Leave at 8pm. Drive for 2 1/2 hrs to kenai. Fish who knows how many hours. Get home by 10am. Shower and get to work by 11am.

The S-run sounds like fun, don't forget to take lots of coffee. And remember, your winters are really long, you'll have plenty of time to sleep then.

You never know about salmon.I prefer the reds for eating. If you did not have to deal with the pinks and dogs that would be great.I hope to make a trip down to Valdez next week fishing for silvers.I usually go to Chitina and dip-net my years supply of reds (30 fish) but I did not make it this year.I am getting all geared up for a fly in moose hunt the second week in September. This is my favorite time of year.
Let us know how you did.

Wow ... That's incredible. You can just dip them out of the water with a net? They must be as thick as flies. Having grown up fishing for bass in fresh water southern lakes, the concept sounds amazing.

The US Senators who just visited Alaska say there's all kinds of crazy shat going on up there right now.

My uncle, who lives in Oregon, has fished salmon for 60 some years. He told me the salmon runs were really screwed up this year. Global warming??
