Well I know it's been done before but I couldn't resist giving my first impressions of my newest toy. I recently sent an Atrim Type XII back to its previous owner and so found myself with a little extra cash. I decided I'd check out Albion's new line up close and personal.

Then the review:
Albion Crusader Type XII

Overall Length: 38.5 inches
Bladel Length 32 inches
Point of Balance: 5.5 inches from cross
Center of Percussion: 21.25 inches from cross
Weight:2.6 lbs
Pommel type: D
Cross type: 6
Blade type XII

Performance Review:
This is a very usable sword. It is a nice balance between the Atrim type XII that I recently owned and the Armart XII that I recently was privileged to work on. It is not as quick as the Atrim but has a more substantial feel. It is not as authoritative as the Armart sword but is far quicker. It handles both hard and soft targets with ease. One of the few negatives performance wise is the pommel which can dig painfully into your hand or wrist if you are not careful. Gauntlets would be a good idea.
Appearance:
It has been said that Albion is working to make their swords an aesthetic as well as performance leader. I would say that they are on their way. This sword is very easy on the eyes. The blade is clean and well polished with no ripples. The fullers are well executed and symetric. The hilt and pommel are well executed if simple. The grip is extremely well done in a uniquely Albion fashion.

All in all I have to say the folks over at Albion have it together and are doing some fine work. I'll be very interested to see what they come out with in the future.
