well, the outside of the pan WAS a nice bright red, now it has a smoky hue to it.

Here's hoping she doesn't get peeved at me when I tell her how it happened!

built my own stove, a two story deal, the bottom can being a heater for the stove above it.

once it gets hot I block the bottom hole so that I don't end up with super flames. I got a quart of water boiling in about 5-6 minutes, and I mean a good rolling boil! :D I cheated by re-igniting the heater beneath the stove, kicked it up a few notches. (without a lid on the pot btw, so boiling time might be quicker)

Now I'm looking to make a windscreen from a big coffee can, this thing doesn't like the wind at all.

Dimensions, two chicken of the sea tunafish cans, the big ones.
bottom can has it's lip removed for permanent nesting, also has a 1" by 1" square hole cut in it to allow for a PJCB to sit in it as a heater.
Top can has #2 phillips head holes and can fit several ounces of alcohol.

not much of a packing stove since it doesn't nest and can't be taken apart, great for a cheap camp stove, if it's warm out the heater acts as a great insulator, you can hold it while burning without discomfort.

I coated it with PJ and burned it in, the spots I missed are already rusting. Should I happen to find the camera tomorrow there will be pics.

I blew into the stove to get the flames to leap up.

Starting the stove up, note the blue flames from the heater beneath.

Where are the pics!

*Sits and waits*

Well, don't have all day.

Sounds cool, though

All pics are up :D

I'll do some measured tests soon to determine time burning to ounces of alcohol with and without heater. along with half gallon boil times.

hope seeing a few crappy pics gives you an idea of how this beast works.

JEEZE!!! that'd be good if you're planning on cooking in a wok next time you're out!!! haha

that is really cool though....looks pretty damn powerful, and the flames look so good when you have the bottom burner out.....looks like you brought the kitchens stove right along with ya.....good idea!

Got my numbers.

Controlled environment (my garage) amount of alcohol used, three ounces.

primary burner time to boil 1 quart 8 minutes duration of sustaining flame 17.5 minutes.

Controlled environment (my garage) amount of alcahol used, three ounces.

primary burner with secondary burner time to boil 5 minutes, burn duration 8.5 minutes.

Boil is defined by a rolling boil, elevation of Tinker AFB elevation 1291 feet.

I think I would have gotten better results with a wider pan and with a lid, surface cooling of the water was quite evident in the wok I used.

Also, it's capable of holding at least 6 ounces of alcohol, so burn times may double, but I'm not sure if it would increase the boil time.

Nice setup Mark, I'm looking to improve my design, a large coffee can wind screen and possibly make another hole in the secondary burner to heat up the primary
burner faster.

I'm also looking to make a soda can/tobacco can stove to nest in it for heating smaller containers.

nice setup!

and yes, using a "double" burner will rapidly heat up the alky and cause it to evap faster and burn hotter and hotter as the cycle continues

yeah, it's pretty sweet, most definitely gonna make a smaller stove to nest in the primary burner.

Well, I made a small soda can stove that nests, I also used another 12.5 ounce tuna can as a wind screen and stand off, it works very well in tandem with my big stove and pretty well with the windscreen.
