Alcohol Storage (burning not drinking)

I wanted to see what everyone who uses an alcohol stove carries the alcohol in. I use a plastic flask with a fill tube, but it tends to get smashed and leak in my pack:grumpy:. So, what do you use? Thanks in advance.

I picked up one of the .5L Trangia fuel bottles from CampSaver several years ago along with the fill cap and have never had a problem with it.

I was using the MSR aluminum bottles until Andy at CampSaver advised me that the denatured alcohol would corrode the bottle. I took a look inside one after I had emptied it and realized that he was exactly right and I transferred all of my fuel to other plastic bottles immediately.

I have an empty Camp Suds bottle with a squirt top. That, a match safe and the Super Cat stove I made fit into a small stowaway pot that I have.

Cola bottles, either 500ml, or 250ml "specials". A while ago, when the World Cup (Football played with feet ;)) was on, Coca Cola made some little ball shaped bottles in 250ml, weighed almost as much as the 500ml, so incredibly strong, and the seal is meant to hold CO2 pressure. Alcohol doesn't seem to have an effect on the polyester bottle, or the seals. Having used a cola bottle I would never now spend money on a more expensive, heavier, made for purpose design.

I keep it in the bottle I got it in. It's a 500ml bottle, and fits nicely in my bag. The bottle is plenty strong, and it's good to know I've got plenty if I need it.

I use a Brunton metal bottle that is made to hold fuel. I haven't had any problems with corrosion and have had it for a few years now.

Been using a MSR canister, though the corrosion issue may be surfacing. Glad I saw this thread lol. How are the Brunton ones different that they are alcohol safe? Coated with something? Seems I need to find something else in any case.

I use a Sigg aluminum fuel bottle. Don't really like the sigg caps though - they are often a pain in the neck to get threaded correctly.

I don't have an alcohol stove, but I do happen to have an 8 ounce nalgene 'flask' (it's not as this as a traditional hip flask, more squat). It's built really tough, and ran under 5 dollars from Campmor. I'd give that a shot if/when I try a stove.

For my metho/alcohol stoves I bought a few small kids alloy drink bottles (250ml and 500ml), painted them red with the skull & crossbones and labelled.
Never leaked ... no problems.

I bought a couple of stainless hipflasks (well labelled) for my shellite stoves (lighter fluid) and they dont leak either. I also have an msr 600ml alloy fuel container for longer trips.

What about some of those small plastic energy drink bottles. I have saved a few back. they have screw top lids and should hold enough for a load in the stove. Might pack better in a pocket or mess kit for single use while hunting.
