Alright guys and gals, here is a chronical on the process of the building of my first functional stove.(built an exploding coke can stove once).

Here is a pic of the tools and equipment that I figured I'd need. I ended up not using the the red rtv and the rivet gun.

I placed a sharpie on a book and rotated bottle against it to mark the height.(no pic)

I taped a flexible measuring tape to the bottle @ the marked Line.

I measured the bottle to be about 190 mm. So I placed a row of dots @ the underside of the tape measure(wide=1/2 inch) 10 mm apart for a total of 19 holes.

Drilled the holes

Cut out @ the marked line w/ my trusty SAK. I had to score all the way around to keep file sided saw from hanging up inside the bottle.

After cutting through, I placed the neck in the bottom to eyeball the amount to cut off.
davidstove019.jpg

Marked the amount to remove with a sharpie on a small book. Rotating as before. Then began to score the mark.

test fit the internal piece.

I used the big file to give me about 3mm clearance to the bottom of bottle.

Used dremel with sanding disk to make notches. I got excited ad forgot an "after" picture. Also sanded off the painted finish.

I press fit the 2 pieces using a jawhorse. Here is a pic of after.

davidstove025.jpg

The pressing process altered the bottom of the can.

Here is a comparison.

Cut along the edge using the previous cut as a guide.

I filed the edge smooth with the big file.

davidstove033.jpg

placed on a can lid as a preheater.

davidstove035.jpg

The stove was burning, but the flash hid the flame.

O yeah, this is a jawhorse in case you were wondering.

davidstove053.jpg

The jaw is operated by the foot-pedal allowing 2 free hands for placement.

I don't have pics of it burning, although I do have videos. If I can figure out how to post them I will.:)

Great freakin' tutorial, and I'm glad the contest inspired some good stove talk and a build like yours.
I pity da' fool on dialup though. :D

Photobucket will handle video, but it invariably stinks when I try it. The sound rarely syncs well.
If you have a Google account, you basically have a YouTube account.
YouTube accepts pretty much any file type and the compression is good.

They are really functional and fun to cook on. Very nice and great turturial..torterial...good job showing us how to do it.

Wow. Nicely done! That'll save you $20 from buying one, eh? I'm seriously starting to reconsider my choice in stoves!

Thanks for the tutorial, I just might give it a shot myself!

Awesome stuff slapper. Have never used one, but I do have several of the Trangia stoves that come with Swiss mess kits. Work very well. I use denatured alcohol.

That's great stuff! Really enjoyed reading it. Thanks for posting. You'll have to get some images of you using it in the bush. Good read.

this one is kinda long, but its the whole "beginning to boil process" It boils about halfway through.

Man, this is cool. Great idea, and you probably had some fun while emptying that bottle before. Only thing that really sucks is that we don't have drinks in aluminum bottles here in germany. meh.

Any solutions, guys?

If you can find "Venom" energy drink, it comes in a similar can I have used successfully with this method.

The venom drink sucks though...

Both Bud Light and Venom are unavailable in Germany. Sucks.

Don't feel bad. I have been missing my Parkbrau Malt since 1984. It was not bitter but slightly sweet & my favorite beer of all time. It was only avail during Christmas time i believe.

that BL appears thicker then your average coke can, is it?

thanks for the tutorial !!

btw:how long did it take to reach boil from ignition?

Thanks for sharing. One of the pieces of gear I use most is my alcohol stove.

I, also, would like to know the boil times?
