Daniel Fairly provided the steel. I decided to try my hand at a stacked washer handle since I'm expecting some leather soon. The guard and butt will be aluminum. That last pic is the guard.

Nice! Looking good man, nice to see that 1084 put to good use!

That is going to be sweet with the guard and all, cool design.

Nothing says lovin like knives in the oven!

Hey dude when you start working that Al with files, take and cover your file with chalk. It will help keep it from clogging up so badly. Keepin an eye on this one!

When tempering in an oven, I like to use a muffle....a cookie sheet with a cake pan upside down over the knife. Ovens typically have a 40° differential so 400° is actually 380-420° F. A pizza oven is worse.

I set it at 425.

This is a good idea, on mine I ran a thermocouple in it to verify the tempurate swings. Mine would cycle through 75* to hold temp! Now that's mostly air temp and a large mass of metal isn't going to swing temps that much, but it is something else to take into account. Shielding it from direct radiant heat of the element helps a bunch.
