hello gentlemen:

this is just to alert you guys that a sword by Bailey Bradshaw is lost/stolen. it was on it's way to me via USPS, but Bailey had accidentally shipped it to my old address...i had a forwarding address, which was supposedly sent but never made it. last time i was told by USPS it was returned to sender...it's been 3 weeks now and Bailey have not received anything.

onto the description...this will be kinda hard since i only have one (unfinished)picture of the sword. :(

anyway: the sword is basically a hira zukuri style wakazashi about 15 1/2" in length and nakago (tang/handle) is 5" forged W-2 steel, made into a short "Pedang Sword" with wood handle and wood scabbard. i wish i can describe it more, but Bailey hasn't sent me a picture of the finished product. i'm hoping that he will chime in and help us with more info...

so...if you happen to see it "for sale" anywhere (maybe eBay), please notify me (email: ekim60618@yahoo.com) or contact Bailey Bradshaw (he is a member here). the sword is already paid for and Bailey will be replacing the sword, but i feel that if it pops up somewhere by a miracle...i wouldn't mind paying or returning it to Bailey Bradshaw. if you know Bailey's work i'm sure it will catch your eye and as far as i know, it's the first Pedang or Indo/Malay sword that Bailey ever made.

here's my only picture of the bare blade...:(

Sorry to hear about your trouble Mike, that sucks. That hamon is pretty distinctive. Any other distinguishing markings on the blade? Do you think it would help to post a photo of the a similarly styled, mounted knife/saya to help us visualize what it might look like in an ad?

The blade is signed under the handle. These pics give a good idea as to the handle and saya shape. Hopefully it will finaly make it back in the mail, but ......

Man, I have heard of the USPS taking forever to return things. I only wish that is the case. Best of luck. Ugghhh.

Sidebar: I just went through a similar scenario with a knife I ordered three years ago. The maker sent it to my three-year-old address after I paid him. FedEx left it on the doorstep. Although insured, the maker *forgot* to specify signature required. I found out about this 4 weeks after it was delivered!!!!

Miraculously, the new tenant after leaving a number of *very polite* notes on his door called me to let me know He had my *knife*. I never specified what it was. He gave me a story about his brother-in-law taking the package and he did not have it, but methinks he was covering his arse. No matter. I got my MINT knife handed back to me with no further problems. I left a $20 gift certificate for pizza afterwards. The knife was an $800 value. (I will post pics and a story some other time. It is getting further work done to it.)

Again, I wish you better luck than you have right now.

Man, that sux.

Anything valued over $500 or goes fedex or registered/express mail.

I only use priority mail when insured and with delivery confirmation. Just increases the paper trail.

On another note, I did get an insurance check for a knife lost last year by the USPS. It took about 2.5 months, but the cash did show up.

Hi Guys,

Sorry to hear about the problem!
I was speaking with my Postmaster recently after some of my knives disappeared for awhile during the USPS priority shipping. The knives eventually turned up but it was stressful for awhile. She suggested Certified Mail for the knives. She said that it was the most secure method to ship anything via the US postal service. According to her, anyone who handles the package signs for it whne they receive it throughout the shipping process. Once it arrives it has to be signed for.

Certified is the safest method, but it's a pain in the ass to use. You need to entirely wrap the package with that brown paper with an englued side you need to get wet, etc.

I think you guys are talking about Registered Mail there, not Certified. Certified isn't much more secure than Priority w/ confirmation of delivery. Registered Mail is also insured, but up to how much I don't know. And you're right, with Registered mail you have to use paper tape, they won't allow plastic packing tape with it.

i went to the post office after about a week of overdue delivery and the postmaster said it should be forwarded to my new address after about 3 more days i stopped by again and they gave me the carrier's #...i spoke to him and he did say he remembers the package and that it was returned to sender. before returning to sender it was supposed to stop @ the main PO in downtown Chicago, then back to TX.

the thing that worries me is that i've always had problems having packages delivered to my old address...i guess if you received a lot of boxed packages people tend to get curious. (i can't specifically say if it's the postman because there's 18 units in my old condo) my first sword from Bailey came to me opened! they said it was because it fell in the truck and was probably crushed by some other heavier boxes...but several of my packages come in with some type of hole or tear on it. :(

my solution to this was to just have packages delivered to my workplace.
