Alert question

Can I receive an alert based on when a certain person makes a thread ?

I follow a couple of knife makers but I would like an alert when they post, or is this reserved only for Mfg Forums and Hosted Knifemakers ?

What does following a member do ?

It essentially serves the same function of "Friends" from the vbulletin days. When you "Follow" someone, their new threads, posts, profile posts, likes, etc will show up in your News Feed.

There are a couple differences though. With Friends, you had to send a request and the request must be accepted for you to "follow" one another. You could also remove someone from your friends list, and I believe that would sever the tie.
Following on the new forums is somewhat one sided. You can choose to follow someone and all it takes is a click of the button. There is nothing to accept and I don't think you can remove or stop someone from following you.

Not sure how the new all inclusive ignore feature would factor into this.
