Alias 1 or Houge EX01 or Al Mar Sere 2000

Wow, not to knock the Sere but, up against the Hogue, in particular, such a cut and dried response surprises me. Be sure to let us know what you pick and how you like it.

Interestingly onesided answers so far. Having owned all 3 & only having the Hogue, I say get the Hogue...:D

Seriously, all 3 knives are excellent. The Al Mar Sere has the low-rider clip, but is a little bulky & heavy compared to the other 2. The Alias I is excellent, it's just I usually have a Seb or 3 when I've had an Alias (About 3 or 4 different ones), so I got rid of the Alias instead of the Seb.

Admittedly, I've only had the Hogue for a very short period (Less than a week), but it's a well made knife. The one I currently have is a 3.5" drop-point model with OD aluminum handles. I liked it so much I'm expecting a 4" drop-point model with G-mascus handles later this week.

Good luck on your choice.

Can't speak highly of the Al Mar. Mine had blade play issues
that could not be fixed by the factory, so i sold it to a friend
who thought he had the skills to fix it. He couldn't.

Was this a (pre-1998) version that wasn't covered by the lifetime warranty?

I would vote for the Al Mar...or even a couple not on your list like the Spyderco Chinook 3 or ZT 0200.

i vote for the al mar or the hogue. i have the al mar, its an awesome underrated knife. havent actaully held the hogue, but ive wanted one, and the reviews have been great.

Owned all but the Hogue, though I did handle it a lot at BLADE. I'd get the Hogue out of all 3.

I've never owned a SERE or an Alias I, but have had the chance to handle both. Out of those two, I would choose the Alias I. I just didn't like the feel of the SERE. I do own a Hogue EX-01 and I like it alot. Great ergos, strong lock, good steel with a classic blade shape/Elishewitz and a nice stonewashed finish. If I had all three in front of me I would choose the Hogue/Elishewitz over the others for work. I would choose the Alias I for carry after work.

I own both the Al Mar and the Hogue. I like them both very much and I wouldn't want to part with either.

The Hogue 3.5" G-10 has been my EDC since I got it in June and I think I lean toward the Hogue because of the safety and security of the button/plunge lock and the safety slide that keeps the lock from disengaging accidentally.

I own both a mini SERE 2000 and an Alias 1 and greatly prefer the Al Mar myself. The Alias is a good knife but I just never warmed up to it and its been sitting on my shelf for the past year. The SERE is an awesome folder with an insanely heavy duty handle a very well done liner lock, good steel and some of the best fit and finish I've seen on a production knife (barring what I consider semi-productions like Chris Reeve knives). However that Hogue does look very cool too and I'd even warrant to say that it has the stronger lock. Either one you'll be very happy with I feel.

Hogue or SERE. Both great knives. I own the Hogue currently in the 4" drop point and really like it. keepem sharp
