Alice pack question

Picked up one of these packs this weekend for $5 at a garage sale. Good condition, and the smell reminds me of my dad's gear from Vietnam (good memeories of him). However it did not come with a frame or straps. How do you add these on and do I need to pick some up at a surplus store or can I use regular (possibly better) stuff from a sporting goods store.
