Alinger help Please

Hi Guys,

I have an Alinger that I bought some months ago and have been having a hard time getting a German Cat knife sharp with it. At first it worked great on the same knife. It got it razor sharp ! but you know how it is always trying to get it just a little sharper. Anway i'm sharpening it at the 20 degree mark and it just doesn't seem to be working. I have even gon back to the blue stone holder which I believe is a coarse hone, diamond hone of course. It also seems that when I move to next finer stone it just gets duller.
I also have a piece of felt to remove the burr which I think I have done.
Seems to get duller after being run through the felt though.
What ives here, Anybody got any suggestions or ideas !

Are you keeping the rod from moving vertically in the guide hole?

Do you have pics of the edge?

A you using the stones long enough.... coarse/blue should give you a shaving sharp edge at the least.
 
Sounds like a wire edge if it gets duller from the felt. I'd recommend using the coarse stone longer until you have a BIG burr that you can feel (In a perfect world you'd strop RIGHT when the burr is at it's smallest stop when it's big so you know when you have one along the entire edge). When you use your coarse stone sharpen in a criss cross pattern go along the edge from heel to tip then along the edge from tip to heel quickly with a little pressure, this will reprofile extremely quickly, and gives a burr you can feel. Now move onto your finer stone DON'T PUT IT IN FELT YET repeat the process, but this time with less strokes and befre you are done with the stone do some ULTRA light strokes a long the edge (2 on each side will do) this will break the burr. Now move onto your finer stone and put it in the felt you should have a burrless and really sharp edge. Now move onto your finer stones moving in one direction only (I recommend tip to heel). When you are finished with all yoru stones give it one more swipe in felt then go to your strop.
