I, like many of you here love, the knife. For most of my life it was just a tool and I took for granted the steel it was made of. It was either good or not. I didn't understand or know about different kinds of grinds or really how to sharpen a particular one. I really abused a lot of them trying to get a usable edge and treasured the few I was lucky enough to get sorta sharp. It was only when I started collecting I learned that different steels made a big difference in performance and ease of sharping. I remember Dave would find a 110 made with S30V or BG42 and go on and on saying how great it was and how rare it was to find one. I became a believer in super steels when I got my D2 118 and used it for processing a big wild hog (also a Pig Sticker lol) and seen for myself just how much a truly scary sharp quality knife made a difference. I wanted to ask yall about your experiences with D2 Buck knives. I'm not sure how many models were ever made with D2 or when Buck used it first . I asked Steve of SK if Buck ever made a 112 with D2 before the Lil'Jack and he told me that he was not sure but remembered there might be one. So if Buck made any knife with D2 could you share with us when it came out and any details about Bucks use and history of it. I am also curious about D2 and file work and mirror polishing as I'm considering sending my new Lil'Jack out for some custom work and wanted to know if D2 had any issues or concerns I needed to know. I've heard it's hard to sharpen but when you get a good edge it holds up well.

Buck made a 102 in D2. I seem to remember it had a leather stacked handle.

That is a very nice one! Who did the file work? I'm not sure what handle material. .is it cow bone maybe?

Great knife

I love Bucks S30V steel and they make quite a few knives in it anymore you might give it a try edge retention is comparable to D2 with better rust resistance. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more knives in D2 myself but with its reduced rust resistance and the fickleness of the majority of knife buyers wanting "stainless" I understand why they don't use this steel a lot. 95% of the buyers out there probably don't give the steel in a blade much more thought than is it stainless the other 5% of us are in heaven with the absolutely astonishing number of knife steel on today's market. It's a great time to be a knife steel enthusiast.

I believe the first D-2 110 was our BCCI 25th anniversary club knife with Lucite scales.

D-2 is awesome, but it does rust easier than other comparable steel like s30v.im in Atlantic Canada,a place where the salt water mists on my windows at home on a windy day.I put more effort into maintenance than most so I have little problems with rust on any knife.beauty 110 Ya got there sir!

I use my 110 with D2 blade off and on throughout the year. It cuts well and requires some oil even in my dry climate. I sharpen it on a crystolon and India stone with no fuss.
Here she is about to be used on a pair of doves I shot and my dog brought them to me. The Collectors Club brought it out in June 2013 DM

People who love D2 (my custom skinner is D2) but do not like the corrosion turn to CTS-XHP. This is basically a stainless D2 chemically but because of the added properties out performs D2.

David that is one gorgeous knife. Did your wife engrave the bolsters?

Nice 1100 DM, is it a 12 gauge?

I would love to see a Vantage Pro in D2. I carry a few knives with D2, 01 etc and never have an issue with rust.
