SO guys, Ive decided to change my load-out as the new hunting season creeps in! (w00t)..

So... I was thinking, considering ill be hunting (and possibly camping out sometimes...) duck/pheasant/turkey/ect..ect.. throughout the seasons what Knives should I take..(keep in mind some situations might be in a little-bit of colder weather..might by some snow on the ground) but ive heard their steel would hold up..

I was thinking a family of Esee knives... Ive had good experiences with one of them in the past and everybody always speaks so highly of them...

I was thinking Possibly an Esee junglas in my bag that i carry in with me for shelter making/chopping trees/batoning/firewood ect..ect.. (big bladed needs)

Along with an Izula 2 for fine-detail work, or small notches, making snares and maybe even as a food-prep knife (unless i get a mora..or an opinel?).. (small knife tasks)

AND was even thinking possibly an esee 3 or 4 on my belt..? for those jobs that are in-between in size... not as small for the izula but not so big that i need that junglas.. what do you guys think of that..? and do ya think that the 3 or 4 is necessary?, or junglas/izula combo covers it?

If you go with the Junglas/Izula combo, then the 4 would be a better choice, imo. But I do think your basic needs are pretty much covered with the first two...

Yes, I was thinking the same as the 3 is too close to the izula in lenght of blade the 4 would be better... I agree... and i also agree that my basic needs would be covered with the izula / junglas combo so yeah.. that what im leaning towards as of right now...

Although I might get the 4 aswell just to have in my possesion incase i was ever going camping i think a blade like that would be good to be on your belt.. as with camping Iam always using a knife for something different ... hunting not as much..

Thanks for wieghing in though!

The 4 is a helluva knife... you may also want to consider the Becker Tweeners. I dig my BK-17!

If you went with the setup you were thinking of, what knife would you use for birds?

Just food for thought;

The thinner blade stock on the 3 makes it a much better slicer than either the 4 or the Izzy's. I'd prefer to use that over the others for processing small game...

I love my ESEE 4 and though it's 3/16" the flat grind makes it a really good slicer. I agree the thinner would be better for small game but the 4 may be more versatile. Depends on the individual. Either way you win their products.

As far as the Junglas goes, I would choose something similar in size from CONDOR for my chopping purposes and pocket the (considerable) change. :)

If all it's going to do is wood processing, I'd take a hatchet over the Junglas. It's going to perform better and be lighter to carry. If you're going to be clearing an area with a ton of smaller trees for a camping space, maybe then I'd take a Junglas, but otherwise it's a lot of unnecessary weight, IMO at least.

Izula II is a good game processing knife, but I think given the rest of your post you could get away with a -3 only because that'll work on smaller and medium game well.

ESEE-3 + hatchet = cover all your bases and be a lot less to carry than a Junglas+Izula+3/4. Actually that combo is nearly the same weight as the Junglas alone and maybe lighter; the Junglas+sheath is 33 oz, while the ESEE-3+sheath is 9oz plus even a heavier hatchet like the Estwing Sportsman is 29 ounces so 38oz together.

I recommend esee junglas, mora clipper ( only 7$!) , and folding saw. With these three their is nothing you can't do.

Sounds like a great combo. I have a Junglas and it's awesome. The 4 is a perfect belt knife as well. A friend has the Izzy 2 and I am very impressed with it. He also has a three and is beginning to prefer it for many tasks over his 4, but I think the 4 would be a better in between blade for you. It's especially attractive as a back up blade in case you end up with it alone as it has plenty of strength. I'm not familiar with your woods and can't speak to how the Junglas would work for you, but it works well in my area. Good luck.

Kreole, I disagree. With the esee junglas you can split fire wood easier and more energy efficiently, the saw is faster and easier to cross cut logs with than a hatchet or axe, the mora is perfect for skinning game, making kindling and oth er camp tasks. These three tools all way lighter than your esee 3 + hatchet.
