Hey guys. I'm semi-new to the tomahawk thing, I got into it when I saw My uncle drop a rabbit from two or three spins off. Been hooked ever since.
I was wondering, I'm going to be ordering my first SERIOUS tomahawk in a month or so, and I was wondering, is the ATC "minute man" poll tomahawk a good solid choice all around? I mean for throwing and field work and definately combat? I've been told that I should go for A hammer or spike if I'm trying to go all around, but I just can't get into having something else besides just the blade on there. any input would be appreciated.

The only thing to remember is that a tomahawk with a hammer poll is generally going be heavier than a tomahawk with a spike, and you won't want that "extra" weight in a "combat" tomahawk, as it will slow-down your swing and re-direction.

Glockman,
Thanks,that's what I assumed too.
But I personally can't even make myself like hammer poll's either! there's something about the extra shape that turns me off, the only time I do like it, is when it's on an elegant Hawk, reminicent of Mel Gibson's in 'The Patriot'.
(how orginal am I, Ay?) I guess I'm just obsessed with a bare bladed Tomahawk.
by the way, what do you call a Hawk with no spike or hammer?

Depending on handle length, either a hatchet or ax.

I have one 'hawk, a Cold Steel Rifleman's 'hawk. ATC's are a little above my budget but I'll be gettin one in a short while. Anyway I chose a hammer poll because of the extra function as a hammer, I use it for breaking stuff up and for the obvious use of a hammer. A hammer poll has the extra weight and aren't too good for combat, but mine is a good thrower and it has a "peace pipe" design.

Glockman, so it's the presence of a hammer or spike that makes it a hawk? I'm confused, i thought it was the weighted throwing aspect and the length and shape that made it a hawk? it seems by your first response that you're advising me to stick with the militia-man hawk shape. (WITH NONE BUT A BLADE ON IT,NO HAMMER OR SPIKE) do you feel it's an all around shape?
p.s. I read a thread of yours on the c.s. vietnam hawk vs. the ATC vietnam hawk, and the difference is drastic, if you don't know yet. you should nilch the c.s. idea. (mine broke! the head chipped!)

HawkPatriot, have you thrown hawks with no hammer? is there a differance is spin? how does it fight?

That's pretty much the way I figure it...Your mileage may vary.

My favorite tomahawk is the ATC Roger's Rangers Spike Tomahawk...That's the one to get.

I have both a Cold Steel Vietnam Tomahawk (one was GIVEN to me), and an ATC Lagana VTAC, and the ATC verison is WAY ahead of the CS version in quality, workmanship, and toughness. The CS 'Hawk is simply a "wall-hanger", IMO.

Glockman,
You're right, the collectors grade spike hawk is wicked looking with awesome reviews, (and a few numbers after that dollar sign, ay?) but I think, since I can't afford the spike, nor have the ability to see the advantage in it, I shoul go with the collectors grade poll Hawk. but my question is, will it still fly and fight just as well and suredly?
How are you enjoying your ATC Lagana?
Merry X-mas.

cold steel hawks should in no way be compared with atc hawks.

the difference is night and day.

atc hawks are the real deal.

that's just my opinion. Please don't be offended.

Tommy I have thrown one hawk with no hammer, but it was a weird awkward lookin thing, weighed alot, and wasnt a good thrower. (Also I have no experience with tomahawks when compared to Andy Prisco or glockman, so what I say is just my opinion.)
And I'm not saying I favor CS tomahawks, if given the choice I would have chosen ATC in an instant. CS hawks get the job done but from what i hear they are in no way comparable to ATC!
