Finished up the handle. Cut off the "puma head" and used some stag. Like it much better now. Now for a hawk :)

Very nice -- you guys better take a lot pics of your rope-cutting contest!

it looks good, but i will miss the puma head :( but i cant wait to see the puma hawk :D are yall gonna have a hawk rope cutting contest also? :footinmou

As bad as I am with a hawk.. I judge how well I'm doing by the number of steps past the target and in the woods I have to take to retrieve it. I guess we could hang some 2L bottles filled with water and try to hit them.

I haven't had a chance to make a rope cutter yet. I may be uglying the rope apart if I don't get on th stick!

Now THAT's a CHOPPER! Good looking, too, Mark. The knife, not you! Sorry, Mark, just joking! IG made me do it! I was always told to be extra nice to people that have very sharp things.

Very nice Mark! Look forward to seeing it chop. Can't wait for the hammer in.

Well so far I have had no luck at finding any sisal rope in 1". If anyone can locate some please bring it.

I've been playing with the chopper. I think I may have screwed the pooch on the heat treatment. Seems a bit too soft in my opinion. Could be that I'm just more used to 1095's hardness. The tests will tell all I suppose. Could be the grind is too thin at the edge. I'm going to put more of a cannell edge on it and see how it does.

Sure am looking forward to meeting everyone and smashing some steel. I ordered and recieved a new burner from Rex Price so I can make a bit longer forge. Playing around with a couple of ideas for design. Probably end up with a horizontal tube like I always make, just longer.

HAppy Birth Day Old Timer!

What type of finnish is on this blade? I just ordered some oxophblue(sp.) from brownells......hope it looks this cool!

Thanks Brian , I just painted on some of the brownells plum brown and then paint on some ferric and this was the result. Just patted the ferric on with a sponge brush.
