This weekend is my favourite show of the year, the Curve Lake Pow Wow. All my hawks went to new homes this past week so had to bang one off for this weekend. Model T leaf spring again, antique Ash hoe handle for the haft, nice straight grain. Carved a Buffalo hoof into the butt end, wrapped in thin dyed Buffalo. The sheath is the same piece of Buffalo with Deer hide fringes. Probably not finished :D
As always, sorry for the crappy pics, need a new camera.:(

Best regards

Robin

Hi Pullrich. I ground the haft down to the thickness of the leather then baseball stitched (herringbone stitch) it on.

thats beautiful! have fun at the pow pow. man, that gets me thinking, i haven't been to one of those in years...

Thanks Bearman. This is a great Pow Wow, by a lake lots of trees, Usually 3 to 7 Drums, 6000 people attend, most of the best dancers show up and 50 traders. I've been doing it for 10 years I think.

Regards

Robin

Sweet Hawk!
Curve lake Pow Wow eh? When i lived in Ontario i used to go to a lot of First Nations events with a buddy of mine from Alderville. Theres nothing really like that down here in Newfoundland, at least not in Eastern Newfoundland.

Yup, not many First Nations left on the rock, the Last Beothic was Shanawdithit who died in 1829 she was the last known living Beothuk. ;''-(
The Mi"kmaq don't really do Pows Wows like we have here in Ontario although the Mi"Kmaq ceremony that is similar are more traditional to the area than Pow Wows here.

Nice hawk, Robin. I really like buffalo sheath with deer fringe. I went to a Pow Wow in Woodland Park here in Colorado on Labor Day. It was small and nothing compared to the one you are going to attend, but still enjoyable. I did not know about it far enough in advance and there was no one there with tomahawks.

Howard

Hi Howard. This one is a well established Pow Wow but small in comparison to some. I'm lucky being the only trader with knives and hawks. Sometimes a guy shows up with knapped flint and obsidian knives.

That is one hell of a beautiful axe Robin. You make the kinds of things you hand down for generations.
You should take pictures of your table next time, before everyone snatches up all your goodies. ;)

Be well my brother.

Robin,

I love how you made the bottom of the haft a hove itself!
Very nice forged scale and amazing sheath!

AWESOME Brother Robin. Makes me wanna go squirrel hunting with the muzzleloader, for some reason. Have a good time at the Pow-Wow.Also, I like that rock....Randy

excellent project and product as always. I am slowly leaning more and more towards getting a custom hawk. slowly.....leaning.....axe collection says - "no don't leave us!!!!"............slowly.....

Very nice! I am going to a powwow in PA this weekend, Muddy Run powwow. I picked up a Terry Baublitz Hudson Bay camp knife there a couple years ago, and I always see some nice hawks (more show than use, not that you would have much need for their intended use). Good to see some axe/knife vendors up there.
