I asked this question on the CQC-14 page but I want a new thread. Should Emerson switch to all frame-lock folders? It makes sense to me but what do I know. Thanks.

Nope, liner lock works for Emerson. He's got a patent on a feature that makes them better.

Do you think the cqc 12 frame lock is a stronger knife?

The frame lock is .125 inch Titainum on one side and g-10 on the other side. .125 inches is about the same thickness as the blade on a cqc 7. I know that the strider Sng and the ZT0300 build their frame locks the same way, that is Titanium on one side and G-10 on the other. I do not know how thick the Ti is on the SNg or zt0300.

I am not an engineer but i think the frame way be weaker then some of the lock liners where there is Titanium on both sides of the pivot to stabilize it. I am just not sure how strong g-10 is.

I would think a full Ti frame lock ( ti on both sides of the frame) such as the sebenza or the new TI junk yard dog is a much stronger design.

There's certainly nothing wrong with two titanium slabs but the G-10 seems to hold up very well for all the companies using it. The stress on the lock is still all on the titanium side.

Good timing for this question. I was just noticing that the lock on my 7A is slipping. It has to go back to EKI for a damaged blade anyway but I hadn't noticed the lock previously. That being said, I'd rather check a lock occasionally and send it in for a tweak every few years than to carry the extra weight of a framelock every single day.

For me, Emerson liner locks find the balance between brute strength and invisible daily carry.

Im a fan of the frame lock my self. i think EKI should atleast do a few of the other knives in a frame lock as well as liners for those who like them.
I have never really had any problems with a liner lock, i just prefer a frame lock. may be a liner on the G-10 side like the ZT300 (for the speed safe) would be a pluss but by no means a must. My 12 and striders are knives i have no worries about at all and their just G-10 and Ti on the handle, G-10 is super rigid so its easily strong enough with no liner. I dont see weight as an issue the differance is not enough to be a concern, its not like it adds 10 lbs to the handle or anything !!!!
I would like to see an HD Persian, kerambit and 14 for sure !!!

i dont know that i would want all of them to be framelocks, of course it matters very little what i (or anyone really other than ernie) want, it aint gonna happen, certainly not anytime soon.

em ernie and let him know what ya think...........

I believe that there should be the option of frame lock with the popular folders from emerson. It is kind of frustrating when complaining about the liner lock and everybody else says, "then buy the other knife with the frame lock." No, I want my commander to have the option of having a frame lock. I love my commander, I just wish that there was a frame locked version out there straight from emerson so we don't have to customize them ourselves. Personally I haven't had any problems with my commander's liner lock, but I would feel better using it if it was a .125 thick frame lock.

Cost !.

You can always send a favourite away to be 'pimped', there are some highly skilled people out there.
