All Knives Illegal Anywhere?

Here in Finland, the law prohibits everything with a blade in public places.
As far as I understand, the law might permit arresting anyone with a Leatherman, but this is not how things work in practice, and multi-tools are worn a lot.

You can carry something if you can present and prove an immediate need for it. An electrician can have his knives, if he's presently at work.

Naturally it's within the law to transport bladed tools around. They can't be readily available (carried) while in transport. If I had to lug knives around, AFAIK the legal way is to wrap them up and keep'em at the bottom of my bag.

So, to sum it up, it's illegal to carry a knife here.

1) England.

2) On an airplane in the US.

That's all I know of.

When I visited France (1985), all the tourist traps at the historic sites sold cheap switchblades.

Back in 76, I visited New Orleans, in the French Quarter the carrying of any knife was prohibited. The cops took a really nice sheath knife from me and two of my friends had thier pocket knives taken.

knives arent illegal in england but we have quite strict knife laws. you may carry a pocket knife with a blade of 3 inches or less, it has to be folding, it cant be a gravity knife, flick knife or butterfly knife, has to have a positive closing blah blah blah blah. you can carry a larger knife if you have an immediate need for the implement, eg a chef can carry a bag of chefs knives to and from work, if you are hunting you may carry a fixed blade hunting knife on your belt while you are hunting but it must be removed the instant you arent hunting. as far as im aware you can carry knifes in your car as i think there would be a good argument that you have a need for a knfi in a car (cutting seatbelts in an accident, various other things.) you would however be ill advised to carry anything bigger than a leatherman micra if you were out in a pub at night, that would be asking for trouble. you cant wander around with them on your belt either.

this of course is just my intperpretation of english knife law you shouldnt take it to be correct. if you search on google.co.uk you will find official police sites telling you whats legal and not.
