Looking for a camping, hiking, backpack and truck knife. Something that will live with me or be within arms reach almost always. The Benchmade Nimravus looks nice but it's missing a pommel. I want to spend under $200 and I want it to last a lifetime of use and even mild abuse.

Try a mora, you can get a few and leave them around so there's always one within reach. I leave one in my car, one in my backpack, one in my tool drawer. Very useful knife and can take some abuse. Get a few different models and try them all out. You'll be hooked I promise. For more expensive offerings check out backers, esee, etc. my primary fixed blade is a spyderco south fork and it's done everything I've asked of it and then some, awesome knife.

The ESEE looks pretty awesome, hmmm.... 4 or 6?

Actually I'm going to make a small list and my wife is going to surprise me.

What kind of pommel do you want? Just a normal metal pommel or do you want one designed to do something specific like break glass or be used as a hammer?

Just something there past the end of the handle, preferably the end of the tang.

Fallkniven F1 or the S1. Both have a exposed tang on the end that you can use as a light hammer.

Nimravus lacks a lot of things for an everything knife.

I'd say Fallkniven or Busse (and derivatives) for a knife you can always have and forget about worries forever.
