hey guys
was wondering if anyone had any ideas about an all purpose thread that can be used in a survival kit. Some of the jobs I was thinking it would cover would be, fishing, sewing up clothes and stitching up wounds. I was thinking at first fishing line but not sure how it would go closing up wounds or repairing clothes. Then I thought of dental floss, what do you guys reckon? Any ideas??

The inner strands of paracord has many uses. It could probably cover all your needs in a pinch.

Just bring Paracord and some fishing line and you could do everything. Fishing line weighs nothing so it would hurt to carry some.

ah yeah! sorry i didnt include that one!! what i wanted to do was put it on a small spool and include it in a psk or neck knife survival kit. so paracord is included already.

I read the subject and thought someone had gotten smart and posted up an "all purpose thread" for us to put all of our off-topic posts in.

That was my first thought too jeff. We have our priorities. Lol

Dental floss? For a minty fresh flesh wound! :D

Spider Wire EZ braid, made from a material called dynemma. I've used this for fishing and it's pretty incredible stuff. Other fishing line manufacturers also made their version of a braided line, I prefer this to the berkeley variety.

I thought the same thing. I was getting all revved up to throw some Bacon. :) Then when I saw that sandgroper meant the stringy-sew-stuff-together kinda thread I was disapointed. :(

Anyway, the County Comm Kevlar thread looks like it would fit the bill, I haven't ever used it but am considering buying some for the same purposes. If you pick some up let us know how it works out.

+2 on the braided fishing line, you can get it in heavier lbs/test than that of regular line too. Would make one hell of a nasty snare... and easy enough to sow things together with.
