True Temper 1938 catalog
I feel the Registered are the prizes of my collection, and overlooked in the shadow of their flamboyant cousin the Raven
I have a gut feeling (or bias
) the Registered was a more prized axe than the Black Raven. The Raven was not shipped for the end customer in a straw packed wooden crate with a registered number of authenticity and certificate.
I have beautiful Legitimus axes, beautiful connies of many makers however as a specific axe, i have yet to hold its equal. That said not all my axes are hung...so my comparison variety is still limited.
My first registered head was a drawer find in a basement workshop of an estate sale near exactly 2 years ago, for $2.00 and only 12 houses down the road from my own house.
Its been hung on the link handle thinned and shaped.
2nd came a little more expensive, but not by much, and rescued from the crusher.
This is the drift pin hole head now on a vintage Hartwell GEM haft
The third, the 1913...i did pay a little for that rescue, but well worth it and still a value, and saved from the crusher.
The most recent is the 1913 Dayton.
Not marked True Temper
I am still patiently waiting for the right handle to present itself
Thanks and everyone have a great holiday weekend
