Man oh man, how I would love an all Ti 0550 and 0560. Do away with the lopsided look of having a steel liner with G-10 scale on one side and Ti on the other. Wouldn't an all Ti version be so much more cleaner and awesome!!!
Please KAI, let's do this!

Thanks for the resources...custom scales are a good option. But to be honest a factory version would be more cost effective and would ensure a perfect match up. I would want the 0560 And 0550 scales to be exactly the same.

You don't see full titanium on the "overbuilt" style knives too often. For hard use, G10 is better for grip and extreme weather conditions. Not to mention it's lighter, and cheaper. I don't see a full Ti production 0560 ever happening. It wouldn't be as well received to the masses. The ZT0801 might be something to look at once it comes out.

Weight is the biggest issue with all titanium scales. For instance, my Spyderco Military G10 (C36GPE) weighs only 4.2 ounces whereas my Military Titanium (C36TIP) weighs in at 5.9 ounces.

Having said that I just love all titanium scales!

The ZT 0801 will weigh in at 5.8 ounces and I'm getting one. That's the same weight as 0560/0561 and 0550!

I would definitely be on board for this. I think that would make the tank (550) that much stronger!

It'll be expensive as in $100-$200 for just the one side so the market is limited.

Rick Hinderer offers XM Titanium Scales and they cost $200!

I like the practicality of the G10 myself. I'd rather Kai machined weight saving pockets in the back of the current Ti as they do on the 0560.
And add more jimping to the top of the handle as they have on the 0566......

I looked into finding some textured Ti bars that could be easily machined into scales. The stuff is not easy to find, although you can find flat stock and could texture it yourself somehow. There are some exotic Ti pieces intended for making bolsters that could probably be used, but I sort of gave up on it myself. Too lazy.

Just because Hinderer can charge $200 for them doesn't mean any titanium scale should cost that much ;)

Of course not. That's why I put down a range of $100 to $200. Guessing somewhere around $150 as a likely price.

As an example, the CF scales are going for $80 to $105 with the Hinderer one at $100.

Damn, those full Ti Hinderers are

I'd love to get one someday but at the moment I just can't imagine spending that much for a EDC knife. I'd be afraid losing it, so I probably wouldn't carry it, and if thats the case, whats the point of owning one? I try not to own safe queens but I have a couple. :p
