as well as any characters in the names of gold and platinum members that are not capitalized.

ETATA: anything that should be displayed in bold is in hebrew.

Obviously this has something to do with how my browser is reading the site, and despite my considerable experience troubleshooting these types of problems, I have to admit I'm a little stumped.

my specs:

I-mac - the boob looking ones
OS 10.4
Safari 4.1.3

Firefox is doing it too.

ETA after I submitted this thread, the title to it shows up in hebrew too.

and I've already checked all of my encoding prefs.

Is there any changes that were made in the over the weekend tha twould cause my browser to freak out?

If anybody has any insight into what might be causing this I would be grateful.

thanks

Nimick.

1) reboot computer.
2) clear cookies and re-log in.

Jewish Hacker lol. Have you tried it in another browser, like Internet explorer?

tried firefox, same thing, but different.

in firefox all the menu titles are in hebrew, but everything else is fine.

Opera doesn't seem to have any trouble with it.

I don't actually have IE on this computer. (It's original owner thought Microsoft was a manifestation of the great satan)

Sounds like the problem is on your end. Check your system settings to make sure you haven't selected hebrew.

Did that, no hebrew selected anywhere. I hate to ask but it one of the mods could move this to G&G. Maybe somebody looking over there would have an idea.

I'll post a screenshot of this:

QWERTYUIOPqwertyuiop (normal)
QWERTYUIOPqwertyuiop (just bold)
QWERTYUIOPqwertyuiop (Bold/Italic)
QWERTYUIOPqwertyuiop (just italic)

Sounds like you lost/corrupted the bold characters of the default BF font and your computer is replacing the missing characters with a Hebrew font instead. Like, the code from BF tells your computer "Display this text in 14 point bold Times New Roman (or whatever it is)" and your computer searches for 14 pt bold TNR characters, but can't find them. So, it replaces them with Hebrew characters to finish displaying the page.

Repair your fonts and see if that fixes it. Happened to me in XP, but it just switched out to a different english font, so my web pages just looked different, not unreadable.

that would explain it.

So, what is BF's default font?

I'm a bit of a typography nut and have a few hundred fonts typefaces on this thing. (please don't tell me Arial, I just fixed Arial... and the problem didn't go away. it's Arial isn't it?)

Verdana is the default font IIRC

I have no hope to offer you, but I do have to say that it's kinda hilarious.:D

Sounds like Esavio-virus to me. :D
A nasty little bugger that usually remains undetected (although instances such as yours have been reported) until you log in one day to find your computer locked down, seaching for and emailing/infecting all of your contacts/friends and playing for your pleasure @ full volume, the full screen version of this:

I managed to fix it by deactivating the hebrew typeface it was substituting, but I still can't figure out what the default is. Verdana didn't seem to have anything wrong with it, though I replaced it anyway.

Thanks to all, and double thanks to hardheart for the help.
