What are the chance's you'll run out of fuel in this situation??

TLD, that stove looks pretty good. Would you elaborate on how you made it? Looks like the bottom of the paint can was removed before inserting the soup can. What sized cans did you use? Also, what's it weigh?

well I used it to help keep the wood above the draft, I'm modding others as we speak and cutting the complete bottom out.. as opposed to holes on the side..

these pics are a little old just thought I'd post them here for fun, I'm liking the fact that I don't have to worry about fuel, although I bring a little alcohol stove with as well, two burners going at once is nice..

not sure about the weight.. but It stows away and is nicely nestled with my kit..

I like simple, adn this is it.. make your holes on bottom of paint can (this one has 4 @ 1/2" diameter, I suggest at least 6) then cut the bottom of paint can out. Next grab some of your favorite (progresso soup) eat, enjoy.. then make holes similar as shown, (although more is better on bottom from what I'm finding out)..

Slide soup can from underneath paint can into the groove, pressure applied and friction pursues.. done..

now get something for the pot holder, I had some galvanized metal so I used that and drilled some holes (hardware cloth is probably better)..

done deal, key note though: make sure you have plenty of fuel at hand, as this is key.. I use a little shavings and twigs mostly..

I remember making these in Boy Scouts a long time ago out of soup cans. Works great in a pinch.

Thanks for the pics!

p.s. Prisoners use something like this as well, don't they? :p

I've been playing with these for the last couple of months. I've been really impressed by the btu's vs. amount of fuel used.

i like it, i added one of my hobo stoves to my toolbox in my truck last night. along with some dry wood and an old phone book for tinder. i was getting ready for our 8" snow storm that only gave us 2"....guess its better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks for sharing this. Does the airspace between the soup can and paint can prevent the outside of the paint can from turning black? How many uses can the soup can last for? Also would a few charcoal briquettes work w/o melting anything? Sorry for all the q's; I'm trying to put together a survival kit. Thanks!
